CR2008 with new wheels and tyres fitted
Looks pretty good to me.
minor problem though... The rear wheel rim bolts that are used to hold the two pieces of the rim together at rubbing on the brake caliper. Will be speaking with the wheel man first thing in the morning. About 4.5 mm spacing needed. Shorter bolts would do the job. The nuts clear fine its just the excess bolt length thats hitting. Finally figured out how to post the "big" pictures in the thread now. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...res_side_2.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...tyres_side.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...tyres_rear.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...yres_front.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._and_tyres.jpg |
I still cant believe how much youve done in no time at all, well done.
I had the same problem with the bolts hitting my front calipers. Just one more problem to fix. The rims look like they sit nicely under the guards, what size have you ordered? Regards. |
Amazing progress - well done - whats the offsets (I understand "front space" best) on the wheels on the new chassis. :)
|
Just get shorter bolts or cut the ones you have shorter.
Remove and replace one bolt at a time so you dont unstick the join between the 2 rim halves. Let the air out of the tyres first. I would recomend getting them rebalanced after you do this. |
Looking good Gregg, you're making excellent progress.
Cheers |
Yes progressing at a great rate of knots at the moment. (I think I might be ready for "attempting" engine start next week) Although I wont have my headers so I think I might have to wait. Need to buy a fire extinguisher as well just in case
I think I will hit a slow patch soon when the exhaust needs doing. (I will send a post for anyone who knows a good exhaust guy in Melb Eastern suburbs -Aussie Mike has given me a suggestion). Regarding the wheels sizes they are as follows: Front 8" with ET38 offset (or 5.5" backspace) using 245/45/17 HTR-ZII Sumitomos from Tirerack.com in the USA (got them when the dollar was 97cents) Rear 10" with ET25 offset (or 6" backspace) using 315/35/17 HTR-Z Sumitomos. I think when I did the calcs this gave the same sidewall height for the same revolutions front and back. 110.25 mm. Spoke to the "wheel-man" today and he is getting me shorter bolts and said I could take the air out and take out two bolts at a time and shorten them if I wanted whilst I was waiting for the new bolts. Boxhead - good suggestion on the rebalancing I forgot about that. (Means I need to buy another 6 pack of Jim Beams for the tyre buddy who fitted them for "free" Big weekend ahead of me - the missus is away and its just my teenage sons and I - looks like we're working on the Cobra all weekend - :):):) Rgds Gregg |
Gregg,
Details on the fuel tank please! Ben |

Hi Ben, Fuel Tank is Ians custom aluminium variety. I estimated by rough measurements about 40 to 45 odd litres in capacity. Rgds Gregg |
So the new kit does not use a Commodore tank anymore I guess.
Cheers, Ben |

The commodore tank didnt fit very well in my "old" kit. I ended up geting one made. 75L and looks smaller then gjkrv8s.
|
Yes the new chassis doesnt take the Commodore tank anymore.
We did a very rough measure. I re-measured and its 48 L. The boot floor in the new chassis is quite deep, so whilst the tank appears large it is not that big. Anyway, doesnt bother me much. Rgds Gregg |
Yes,
Fitting the Commodore fuel tank is a real pain, I will definitely get a custom one later on. Ben |
