Painted!
Painting completed and I'm rapt!
I always wanted candy apple red but when I saw this colour from Standox I was smitten. Its an Exclusive Line colour called Red Rocket. It's a water based paint. It is a lustrous red but changes colour subtly in different lights with orangy/bronze highlights where the light catches (forgive the non-technical terms). Both photos below were taken with the same camera one in bright sunlight and one under cloud. My gallery has shots inside the workshop with the same camera which look totally different again. The stripes are titanium silver which has the same grain as the red. They don't seem to photograph too well. Looks great, I was wondering why the windscreen side supports are in place in the spraybooth?

On the drivers side all the computers/fusebox etc are near the lower end of the windscreen pillar. It was easier to mask them than to take them out. |

I have been very happy with the Homebush kit and Brian's help. I also love the shape. Car weighs 1140kg 52-48% rear/front, not as light as expected but built to last! The sidepipes have butterfly valves on them to divert about 25% of the exhaust, just to tune the sound, I did a thread on this last year. I will probably motorise these in the future. |

They are just MX5 fabric seats. They have decent adjustment, are low, comfortable, (I'm 6'2" tall) and are narrow enough for the tunnel. May get them leather covered down the track... |
Looks very nice Martin. How did you do the stainless steel grille? How is it attached from behind?

I got the mesh from Melwire - melwire.com.au. With hindsight I would have got a thicker gauge. They will sell and post small amounts and are good to deal with. I laid down a rim of fibreglass about 25mm wide x 2mm thk on each side of the mesh to keep it plane and aid fixing. I used 20 x 20mm aluminium angle facetted to fit the inside of the body fibreglass and fixed it with Sikaflex. Grille is fixed with self tappers to the ally. See diagram below. On my car I have an air conditioning radiator in front of my engine radiator, this means both have to be removed before the grille can be removed, which is a pain. I have it in mind to replace this grille with one made from horizontal chromed bars but I haven't started on this yet. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/Grille1.jpg |
Thanks Martin. I have some of the heavier gauge stuff - woven SS. The way you have framed it for attachment is what I was after. I won't do it right now but may later on when I have some time.
