TFI for Distributor
Hi Fellas
I'm working through the engine loom and have come to another hurdle. The original distributor on the Windsor has been replaced by an after market job and there's no TFI fitted to the side of it. So I've now got a lead from the loom with nowhere to go. What's the TFIs' job, is there an option to bypass or leave this off or am I off to the wreckers to find an original to make things work? Greg |
heheh more bloody hassles with yr engine
if u r runing std ecu u need the tfi its just like an ignition module im not sure if its a dumd or a smart module u might be able to replace it with an msd but i would not risk it look at msd website see if they have diagrams for msd on an efi windsor you cant bypass it otherwise ecu will burn like vinctoria has the past few days dont buy 2nd hand one they are not that dear for new one bout 100 odd dollars |
Greg I bought a new TFI one from Summit Racing. As Sideshow suggests don't muck around with second hand ones or eBay versions. Mine was very well priced and came quickly. I just called them on Skype.
Cheers, Merv PS: Warwick says (and I found out also) that the harness connection to the fuel pump on his cars does not seem to operate the pump. I have wired and relayed it separately. M |
Thanks fellas
Merv, does the TFI sit on the distributor or did you buy a new distributor complete with TFI? The dizzy is a Bosch Aust unit. I spoke to them today and gave them the part#, apparently it suits a V8 Commodore? Who knows what that's doing there:confused: Bosch no longer make or sell distributors, so it looks like I'll chase up Summit as you suggest. Where are you up to, is everything back together after painting, engineering can't be too far away? Greg |

this is what it looks like i wont say if it is exact one u want incase its not cause the aussie ones i know are grey colour not black id have to look up my mustang cds on weeknd see if they have nay info |
Gregg,
I bought the whole distributor with the new TFI from Summit. Felt it deserved a new dizzy. It was not costly. They have more advanced ones but their basic one is well made. I am doing final wiring of the alternator and starter and start switch. Then the immobilizer set up. Then it is all done! (hopefully he says!) Merv |
hey merv do u mean aftermarket immobiliser
or one in the ecu |
I have the standard Ford 302 harness Sideshow. I bought a Rhino immobilizer. Not sure how complex that will be.
Merv |
ok cool
what is the 302 out off us based 302s didnt have security in the ecu till about 96 ish aussie ones had security from eb onwards which i think are all efi 302s but i could be wrong |
US Mustang '92.
I guess I will need an aftermarket job. Merv |
G'Day Merv,
I put a Rhino doodad in mine...piece of cake, no problems. Hid the whole thing way up under the dash. You wouldn't know it was there. It would be near impossible to hot wire. |
Thanks Rob. Sounds a good system then. Not a whole lot of room under that dash these days...
