Number plate lights

Hi all,

%/

I was looking at the number plate light - license plate light - which is a chrome trailer type light on the GT40 and it looks average. I was considering a smaller or later model type light.

%/

But could not find any after trawling through car sites.

Has anyone seen or used a number plate light other than the chrome trailer type with the bolt in the centre..

Any link to a site or supplier would be appreciated

I have the same light as on the back of this original Cobra.

Do you have any mounting holes etc from old lights, if so that may limit your choices if you don't want to do any body work.

What about those stainless button head bolts with leds in them - Lite N Boltz. Very discrete, not technically compliant, but they work well.

Or dome style lights, I have some here you can have as I'm sure I owe you a favour somewhere.

Or you could just run the small black Narva L1510 ADR compliant. Depends on the look you are going for. I have attached some photos of John's RCR-40 with them on. I have larger versions of the photos in my gallery you can zoom in on.

Yes the original Cobra is nice. I had the same colours on my old Cobra.

The colours are 'PPG' Guardsman blue and Wimbledon white stripes. Rookie stripes over the left front guard - fender - are usually red or yellow. I used Fly Yellow a Porsche colour for my stripes.

Here is a photo of my old Cobra....

Craig,

Thanks.

I'm happy to try the dome lights.

I have not pulled the current trailer lights off the GT40, to see what holes are there.

From memory when I used them on the Cobra, I think there is a central hole for the wiring and two locating holes. These particular GT40 units are the same as I had on the Cobra.

I was just looking at them the other night and thought I needed to upgrade them.

Punch in light boltz to google. i doubt they are legal but they are cool ;)

400TT 02-21-2009 04:46 AM

Rob, did you actually read my post above. ;) I've used those Lite N Boltz before and really liked them.

BMK, yes you will have a hole through the middle and two mounting holes. I think you are going to need something to cover the old holes up. Maybe sit the entire number plate on a stainless/aluminium cover plate that extends over to cover up those old holes.

Bernie,

Search for number plate lights for MGB and Triumph, they have Frogs eye lights that go
at both ends of the number plate, they were also on the GT40 MK1 cars.
These lights were also used on the doors of Cobra's and GT40's to show the numbers when racing at night.

Harry.

sideshow.... Harrymac

Thanks guys for your information.

I'll have a look at the sites.

RCR

Craig,

The number plate lights that Harrymac has suggested are the same as the dome lights that you have..

Sorry to be a pain....:3DSMILE:

But I looked at your web. site and could not see which of the links is to the motorbike supplier...%/

I think I may need to place an aluminium panel under the plate as RCR - Craig - suggested.

If I did this, I could use either the dome original type lights or any late model bike or car light.

The only problem I have is the three holes in the body from the old trailer lights. I may even get them repaired and painted.

Unfortunately, I have one each side of the plate at the moment...

Thanks again for the help.

Bernie
