More mechanical noise than my Cobra!!!

I didn't think that it would be possible to own something that makes more mechanical noise than my Cobra. Never mind the exhaust sound, the gear driven, cog pulley supercharger whine and mechanical roller cam clatter were a mechanical symphony of their own.

Well, it's happened. Ohlins, Marchesini, Termignoni, Brembo, and Ducati Performance brands are scattered around the new toy, and the dry clutch rattle is something to behold (and something to make everyone else think that I've forgotten to fill the engine with oil...)

Many thanks to the resident Cobra & motorbike guru in Melbourne for collecting it for me. Not only is he the producer and director of the video, but he's also the star of it! Might have to call him Mike Bana from here on!

I'd like to think the camera adds 10KGs but I think it's more likely Pizzas and Kebabs that have done that to me.

The Duke makes a glorious noise with lots of mechanical clattering that is typical of the marque. I had the camera sitting on top of the wheelie bin and every time I blipped the throttle it made it shake.

You'll have a ton of fun on it Craig provided the guy that picks it up can pry the key from my hand.

Cheers

Nice, very nice. :)

Hope to see you on it at the next club meeting.

Sounds like a tin box full of rocks ! until it is revving..nice ! Does it have a starter that runs till it fires ?

I've heard the Ducati mechanical cacophony described as sounding like a sack full of hammers.

Hearing one of these motors on song down the main straight of Philip Island is a wonderful thing.

Craig, do you have to supercharge everything you own! That's a pretty slick bike. Any idea how much HP she's got? Does it have the desmodromic valvetrain? Looks and sounds nice, but be safe my friend. :)

Rob - yes, it's a servo assisted starter. I think in that video that it almost fooled itself into thinking it had started. At least it eventually started first time though, which is probably unusual for a Ducati :)

Hi Kris - long time, no see! No blower on his one. I draw the line at vehicles requiring 4 wheels and a roll cage if they're to have forced induction... Same parts on other S4RSs has often resulted in around 130hp at the tyre. In this tune, it's supposed to be around 150 at the motor. Largely irrelevant through. I'm no racer, so with the good exhaust system and top shelf suspension parts it's just all about the noise and poise. It does have the desmo valvetrain - incredible to think that Ducati started with that engineering concept back in the 50s, and have stuck with it ever since. Stubborn or revolutionary - I'm not sure, but it certainly gives the engine a unique sound. And thanks mate, I'll be steering well clear of inattentive drivers!

A high comp ratio (11.4:1) means the starter has to work hard to turn the beast over. It cranks for a bit when it's cold but kicks over after only a couple of turns when warm.

Sounds a bit strained like my old Ford clapper style starter motor when I had 472 cubes @ 12.8:1 compression.

At least it takes so long to start from cold that I can hit the button, then put on my boots, jacket, helmet and gloves before the motor actually fires. haha

Just getting insurance quotes now... OUCH! I have my 5.0 AU Ute, 460 XY and 63 Mercury Comet ALL insured for less than the bike alone. Gotta pay to play.
