Baz, Not sure if Id be "resting my case" based on what Rob went through 6-8 years ago. Not doubting what you have in your letter of course, just would want everyone to err on the side of caution. :)

i think at the end of the day it depends who u talk to at the rta
like any government run place there is a level of xpertise in them ranging form dummmm assssseesss to sort of smart with enough to get thru a day behind the desk i had a **** fight getting my mechanics/auto elects licence and luckily the dum lady wasnt there the day i went back and actually got someone who was willing to sit down and help me get thru this over the phopne or emailing is not a good idea either i think go there in person and chat face to face and just keep asking for someone who knows the rules maybe people on here should write down which rtas are more helpful than others or which ones have more knowledgable staff than others |

Darrell - aiming at engineering around school hols. Not sure if Ill make it in time, but if I want it registered and back in standard trim by Nats then thats what Ill have to go for I reckon.

That is different from QLd where we need to have an engineer lined up from the start of the Approval to Build.

No UVP means no CTP insurance and the RTA can say what they like but I am sure if you were unlucky enough to have an accident without a current UVP you can say good bye to copious amounts of money when you get the arse sued off you!!!!! Now a UVP costs you $18 and you can get one without a VIN at any RTA....... so the choice is simple really!!!

Agreed! They have day permits here in QLD and I will be getting one for my QLD Transport inspection in a couple of weeks.

The price Qld Transport quoted me a couple of weeks ago was $20 a day for the permit and $100 CTP insurance which is good for a couple of weeks. For registration, you get your CTP insurance. Once you have that(which you have to get on the the day of the inspection/registration) I was told by QT I could drive the vehicle to the inspection station, no permit required. Warren |

Thanks Warren. So does that mean when I make my appointment for inspection after next week at QT Maroochydore (also the place of registration and CTP payment, if inspection is fine), I should ask about the day permit? I really don't want to use a trailer again!
