Went out for practice this arvo, good fun, mixing it with shelby mustangs and even a HSV W427. Bit wet, especially on slicks...

Wasn't Scotty suposed to be the quickest with the new beast |

Hi All. Race Day 1 (SAT) was an eventful affair. Forgive me for my generalities but here's a general round up. Sorry if I miss anything....
The overall racing in all categories was pretty dam good. Especially the group NC door to door stuff. XU1 Torana's, GTHO's, Mustangs and Escorts plus the rest of the merry men made for some great racing and a few bent doors... These guys sure do go NUTS when the green light goes on! Far out! As far as the GT40/Cobras go everyone did really well with none of the bentness experienced by the group NC guys... Greg Quince was super fast in his GT40 but I believe Chunky Hancock scooped the pool with a 60 flat or there abouts.. He looked quick and was! The usual suspects followed with Ash Bright, Wayne Proc, John WHite and Todd Ransome at the pointy end... Forgive me if there were other quikies but my memory is fading... Scotty Ozvenom was progressing well still sorting issues but managed to be about 4 secs off the fast guys... He certainly made a specatacle of himself on his last run with his bonnet launching off the car at 200kph past the flag marshall down the QR main straight... Must have gone 20 feet into the air at least.... Suffice to say the turbo was breathing well once that happened. I recovered the bonnet of a little kid who wanted Scotty to sign it so he coudl take it home. One mans hero!!!! Ozvenom has a bit of work to do tonite to get the car ready for tomorrow but he will be running in the am I'm sure.... I was there as pit beeatch but sadly was suffering a shocking case of shaggers back and was good for getting coffees and thats about it! Also good to see John White in his RCR GT40 and Paul G his Turbo GoCart going super quick as well as Timmy T launching his RCR Super wiz bang Knsieeggg lookalike thingo which if it goes as fast as it looks the whole world is in trouble! Safe driving tomorrow. I'm going to be flat out on my back! Trying to get better.... Spookypt |
Spookypt has summed the day up well.
Had an absolute ball today. I only have photos of the RCR cars. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...3_640x480_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...4_640x480_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...5_640x480_.JPG More photos in my gallery. Enjoy. |
Last sprints of teh day - RESULTS
|
There seems to be a lot of Fords there?
Merv |
The Cobra, GT40 guys were quite the spectacle with what appeared to be a very professional group -- going at it neck and neck all week end. So, well done to Pete (Chunky) er "Rocket Man" for FTD and pulling the group together.
Looking at the natsoft results --the make of car and capacity in a few cases seems to be a wild guess:LOL: One had a 4000cc Windsor ?? **) One used to have a 5000cc windsor ?? ;) One had a 4000cc Turbo --x 1.7 = 6800cc ?? :o etc |
There seems to be a lot of Fords there?
Yes Merv thats because the event was the MUSCLECAR Showdown....;) Ive gotta THANK, Peter(DRB Sportscars), Scotty(Venom Cobras), Warrick (Cobra Kits), For all being VERY generous sponsors to allow us to have some nice trophys for the event, Please support the guys that support our Sport! Also thanks to all who participated to make it a great weekend, Everyone drove fast and safe with no significant issues or damage (except maybe my front brakes!) Chris/Yve Im sure those engine capacities are just typos...... Peter.. |
It's nice to see the DRB where it should be
Top of the list :D:D Well done guys Sounds like a great event was had, and I regret missing it Will have to try harder to get to the next one ;) |

I reckon it was a great concept! I even had a chat to gentlemen Jim Richards. A nice bloke (for a kiwi).
Felt sorry for Wazza not having a car to run and I struggled with cracked ribs all day but I would love to have a crack next year and I'd suggest even more cars would be involved. I also think classess in this form of racing in my opinion are a very basic guide.....but that's about it. Can't read too much into all that... I think the top 5 cars where running slicks so that'd have to be factored in as well. I say forget polarity... it'll never happen.. and if we had it we'd then have nothing to talk about at night about why we got unfairly beat!!!!!! The biggest thing for me was Chunky Hancock... I haven't studied the overall race meet stats but of all of the ENTIRE FIELD OF cars there, he was the only guy who did a sub 60 sec time on the clubman circuit. That times beats scuderi ferraris, Jim in his Falcon Sprint and bevvy of ex group A dunniedors..... An AMAZING time and scary in fibreglass bathtub! ! Engine classes....well... I reckon that.... One had a 4000cc Windsor ?? - It does doesn't it! One used to have a 5000cc windsor ?? It did didn't it!:3DSMILE: One had a 4000cc Turbo --x 1.7 = 6800cc ?? Turbo wasn't working and engine only ran on 6 cylinders most of the day so in reality 3000cc:D SpookypT! |
This "chunky" bloke, what kind of fibreglass car was it exactly? Any results available on the web? Sambo.

Natsoft
Go to this link....for full race results.
http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...28/06/2009.QR1 Chunky as he is affectionatley known is Pete Hancock. Gold DRB with 347 I think. Won best show and shine at last years Nats.. Beautiful car and very well sorted. Plus he drives the ring off it! He's quick and his car is super well sorted! He has in tow Ash Bright and Wayne Proctor who are all studying under his masterery! They are all very quick these days! |
Sorry for not getting on to this thread as yet, and giving my huge congratulations to Peter "Chunky " Hancock, not just for being the fastest car at the meet, but mainly for his excellent job in organizing our club's involvement in this event, and as it was only his first effort as our new "club co-ordinator for motorsport", the acheivemnet is even more impressive.
Really shat off that I was unable to take part, after having some "con rods sticking out of the sump" issues during a practice session at Morgan Park raceway the week before. Spook is quite right in saying that Chunk is kicking everyone's backsides , and we're all going to have to do some serious improvements to close the gap again. The event was absolutely brilliant, and with the biggest collection of the country's best muscle cars....( some came from as far away as Tasmania ), combined with 16 of the Queensland Cobra Club vehicles competing , it made for the best "hoon" weekend I've had for years. Currently stuck up at Peppers resort in Hervey Bay, but will post some good shots etc., when I get back. Cheers, Warren. |
Well if Chunky can win in a DRB running an old Ford engine (sorry couldn't resist), I have high hopes for a Harrison with modern a power plant. I wonder what the budget is for a car to run those numbers at the track? Never mind talent! :)
|
The Harrisons don't seem to go any faster...... A yellow DRB with an old ford engine did a 1:02 and the nationals last year didn't it?? (Sorry couldn't resist)
|
Consistent too, Towmeister. Wish we had an event like that down here - Cobras vs GT40s vs Toranas vs Falcons etc. Looking forward to some more photos.
|
Until I get to work tomorrow, and I can get some decent shots on here....
Here's a "taste" from another link. http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/...owtopic=434607 Cheers, Warren. |
Hi all , well yes the usual race group where up there but for those out there that may think it was only for the slick group there was those on street tyres who drove as well.
Yes we where not as fast as the rest but it was fun and safe with plenty of room for being passed . So i hope that other street tyred members might give it a go next year . Also there was one Daytona but hope to have four there next year . Warwick. |
