Looking for info on RCM
Hi,
I am currently researching cobra kits and have spent a bit of time reading this forum but not yet posted. There is an RCM kit up for sale at the moment and i am wondering if anyone on here has any experience with this kit? If so, can i get some opinions, good part bad parts etc. I tried the search but it seems to also give posts about RMC so becomes a lot of posts to trawl through. I am in NSW (unfortunately from what i read!) so i think the motor I use for it would be the 6lt LS2 as these are NSW friendly (i think). Does anyone know if this will fit with this kit? Would i have trouble getting this model kit registered in NSW? Also is there any structural testing that is required for engineering (torsion and beam)? If so should this come with the chassis? I really dont want to buy a Body and Chassis because they are cheap and then find i end up spending heaps of money on engineering. Hoping someone can offer some advice. Cheers. Liam |
G'day Zedn, Find a Signatory Engineer first..they are up to speed with kits and their faults etc. It may cost a little but worth every penny.

I am over on the Northern Beaches. Which RTA engineer did you use for your CR? It may be worth me giving them a call next week. What documents did you provide to the engineer? I believe the CR comes with supporting documentation for the chassis. Is it a case of them examining the chassis or do they require a torsion and beam test report? The car i am looking at comes with no docs on the chassis. I work in quality management certification and my qualification is Civil engineering. I have experience with product certification to Australian standards and i assume this is very similar. I imagine the engineers are interested in design of the chassis, materials used, quality and qualification of the welding. Or is it all performance based? I dont want to buy a kit for cheap and then spend so much on engineering that i could have just bought the CR kit who are half hours drive away. Cheers |

I'd be surprised if RMC didn't support you if you bought the kit and chased engineering information later. Presuming of course the evilbay car is an RMC. I bought a second hand G-Force (also made in WA) which is a bit of an RMC clone, without engineering papers and was pleasantly surprised by the G-Force owner's support in sending me a copy of his standard report. This helped me successfully through engineering. Agree though that if you can get a signatory vehicle engineer on board first you will have access to advice on the correct up to date engineering requirements you need to meet. Your decision should be made on which kit suits you best. I am a mechanical engineer - and this has been the most annoying, frustrating yet enjoyable experience I have come across. I have made some great mates and along the way built a car too. I just happen to know a couple of guys on the Northern Beaches that have built a car recently and could give you some good advice. I am sure they will pop up soon. I am certainly bias, but take a look at the latest Classic Revival Kit, the LSX engines bold straight in and they have a quality chassis and body. If I were to build again that would be the one I would go with. Cheers, Ben |

Give Laurie a call he will help you. He has built about 80 cars around the country, his cars handle well. The good thing about Lauries cars is he will help you all the way with your build.:D |

RMC is the WA based Co. Both well represented with owners who have completed cars. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have spoken to an engineer (Kevin at Wyong) and apparently the Torsion and beaming testing is not going to be too greater expense (unless it keeps failing). Judging by the reading i have done on here and in my copies of Kitcar magazine from last year, it should pass or require little work to pass.

Ha Ha Ha my beaming & torsion test results supplied by RMC were for some other vehicle. My engineer looked at them and laughed. He said that the chassis would have to have had 'slices' cut in it to be as flexible as the test results stated. All was sorted and both engineer & RTA were happy.
