Help finding 4.5 inch stainless tube
Hi Guys,
I am trying to source 4.5 inch stainless tube for my sidepipes but most major suppliers are telling me there is no such thing. Does anyone know of an Australian supplier.:confused: Thanks Hogster |

They list the price at $38.00 and will ship via UPS but I don't know if it's economically practical to ship overseas. They do have a form on their web site that allows you to request a quotation. |

Thanks for the responses.
Geordi Stainless sell what I am after, listed as stainless pipe. It is 114.3 outside diameter with a 3mm wall thickness. $110-00 per meter. They list it as 4 inch shed tin pipe??? Anyway all good, Thanks Hogster |
You could try Darren down here in Victoria.

4.5" 3mm wall, that should keep the c of g low.

check with performance diesel shops, that stuffs pretty standard for them. SOmetimes they even use 5" and 6" SS pipe. I'd bet they can also supply the turn outs.

Not Aussie but here's some .065 wall. You'd need girders to support 4.5 x .125 wall sidepipes.

Side pipe weight...
Dont know yet regards what they will weigh. They will be relatively heavy though. Stainless internals as well.
I will have them bracket supported in a couple of places and bolted to the chassis. They will end up being copies of Aussie Mikes setup, basically with interchangeable internals, cats and quiet in one set and no cats and larger diameter in the other set. Rego Vs After Rego:D:D The 4.5 inch was difficult to find and is not polished, 4 or 5 inch polished stainless is everywhere. Regards Hogster |

I've been away overseas for a bit so haven't had much time to get on the forum lately. I've bought a fair bit of stainless tube from Tubesales down here in Melbourne. I've bought 4" from them in the past so there's a good chance they have 4.5" Here's their web page: http://www.tubesales.com.au/index.htm 3mm wall is way overkill. Why so thick? I like the way Tubesales categorise the sizing as 'Young Buggers' or 'Old Buggers' for metric or imperial measurement :)

Yes guys the 3mm stuff is too heavy, it looks like I will have to have it cut and welded from 5 inch with 1.6mm wall, or have it rolled and welded.
Either way it's going to cost me. I have chased truck exhaust places, tube sales, atlas, georgi and all manner of other stainless suppliers and I have not been able to source 4.5 inch in Oz. I am still hoping somebody will know a place that stock it. Cheers Hogster |
If you haven't got access to a set of slip rolls I reckon cutting an re-welding 5" tube would be pretty easy. Do you have access to a plasma cutter?
I'd clamp a straight edge along it and slice a section the right width out with the plasma cutter. Next I'd turn up a couple of plugs from aluminum that are the right OD to go inside a 4.5" tube. Put one in each end and clamp the tube down onto them with some big hose clamps. Add a few extra clamps along the length of the tube to close up the gap. Tack weld at several points along the seam. Get a long length of 2" round bar or heavy pipe clamped in the vice. Slip the tube over it and use it as a dolly with a hammer to work the metal round at the seam as needed. I don't reckon it'll take much. Weld the seam along it's entire length. Job's done. Cheers |
