Hi rog
I'm about 3/4 the way thru wiring my Harrison. I picked up a Painless 18 circuit loom on Ebay for $250.00 and with the occasional phone call to a auto sparky for advice, it's been pretty easy and good fun. I suggest having a mentor if you've not done it before as there's bound to be a few traps awaiting you. For example my Mitsubishi combination switch switches lighting to earth which had me buggered until the elec redrew the painless diagram for me. There's quite a bit on the universal loom instructions that need to be modified to suit your needs. You only need about a dozen circuits and the painless only had 1 relay for the horn, so you need to add a few more. The Yanks don't have a separate circuit for reverse lights and integrate tail/indicator lights as well other idiosyncrasies. You'll also need to integrate the engine loom where some operations are replicated. My car is running an EFI Windsor and I gave the engine loom to Warwick to modify, he stripped out the unnecessary stuff and just left me with a few power/ignition connections to wire in. Get hold of Graeme at www.larpro.com.au for wholesale supplies. I used heaps of 2,4,6, & 8 pin plugs, they're about $6.00 each at Supercheap Auto, try 40c from Graeme!! and his wire 30m wire spools are the same price as 7m from retailers.......got his contact from this site, he'll save you heaps. At anywhere from a few to the 6 grand that someone on this site was charged to do the job, it's worth persevering if you're 1/2 confident. Greg |
6 grand
thats abit steep is the wire gold plated half that is a more respectable figure especially if u know what your doing and can do it fast |

Yeah sideshow
ledges' post below..........$7500 !! http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...ht=wiring+cost |
**** i just read thru it
anyway im not trying to say its a very hard job it ****ds me when people say its just 4 wires to wire up an ls1 to do it properly u need 4 or 5 relays especially if u have 2 thermos each relay has 4 or 5 wires and then u need fuses like on the lexus forums people say its just 7 wires to get engine runnig well why the hell does it take me 8 hours to wire up 7 wires i to can charge 100 bucks and get these 4 or 7 wires run them directly to battery and i can say hey i have wire up my 1uz or my ls1 and it took me 1 hour i have to give warranty so that means a proper job ive seen afew home jobs on other cars and even cobras from this site and i would never allow my work to look lik ethat anyway a rough guide is 5 to 6 days to wire up everything nice and neat and with relays if i get a full day job at work its around 700 bucks but if i work 5 or 6 days on a car i charge 500 to 550 a day last few cobras ive done have ranged around 2500 to 3000 depending on parts and what was needed which for 5 to 6 days for a sole person isnt too bad say u add 2000 in parts like that other guy did its still way cheaper but i try to not buy the extra parts i let the customer do it as i frucking hate alarms they are the devil to me especially if they are wired up by the asians who drive round and twist wires together and take 20 minutes to fit them any alarm fitted that way i instantly rip it out and tell customer to fix it properly i also know alot of your common every day auto elects that do yr basic stuff they are abit more expensive due to they love doing the bread and butter stuff like alternastors and starters thats where they make money so when they get a full rewire they pump price upa fair bit cause they dont like doing them last week i rewired an ek ute on lpg from dash forward took about 3 to 4 days at the end of the day if i get a good night sleep and maybe abit in the morning so i wake up feeling good i can goto work and get stuck into a job within 2 days i can have 80 % of the wiring run and wired then u spend 2 or 3 days doing the fidly bits and if anyone has done their own wiring they will understand the fiddly bits just go on and on u look at it then u go hey im nearly done then u see oh i have to do this little bit then that little bit then u realsie 2 days later the fiddly bits are done i guess it all comes down to how experienced the person is to get the job done fast another thing is if i do a job over afew weeks then i dont charge extra some guys the longer the car is at workshop then the higher the bill goes i hate having cars at shop for longer than 3 weeks cause if u dont get good turnove rof cars u are loosing money so beware those out there and ask many questins if u are going to get someone to do work on yr cars |
Thanks for that Sideshow.
So how much is an ISIS kit..............??? I went to the website and had a good look.........Am I gonna faint ?? Its a very impressive bit of kit ! Rog |
we roughly priced an isis install
all up including parts is around 4500 so thats a full wire up and all the units for a std install but it can do so much more u can buy extra module for an alarm which disarms the unit then u can get a small lcd screen which allows u to control everything it can get programmed to do a heap of things once u learn what it can do and i guess if that other guy paid 7g for a ful wire up 4500 to 5000 bucks aint so bad we had a stall at the summernats showing off the isis unit and we had the pleasure of having a chat with troy trapania (i think thats how u spell it) and his dad about the isis unit a sthey were going to install it and we had already installed one to chic henrys car |

Interesting system: http://www.isispower.com/
Worth watching the short video. The future of wiring systems for kit cars and as instrumentation goes digital as well ... Merv |
alot of the stuff it can do u dont really know by going thru their website
we have extra info and have spoken to engineers there when we ran into porbs and its a nice piece of work if done properly anyway your a better off buying it thru the internet direct we tried to become nsw or australain agents but because u can easily get it thru the internet then it was not worth it they didnt really have a trade price only way we could make some money on the product was to buy alot every year the more we bought the more discount and i recon thi sproduct still hasnt taken off in australia and with our pissweak population into cars we just dont have the amount of people who would buy this since our stall at the summernats with 2000 brochures and stuff we have had less than 5enquiries so the demand aint there so if we are not installing it we just get others to buy thru them and if there are any problems then they have to ring them not us but if we fit it then we do help if any probs arise down the track another prob is if u do get problems not many people out there would understand how it all works at end of day we might just make 100 bucks on the system and when the system is worth 1500 bucks or so then we arent ripping anyone off |

It is expensive but seems sensible. I wonder if one of the US kit car or turnkey car producers would use it as standard? Even RCR?

Wiring prices
Rog246,
My wiring was done by a Cobra owner (he has done over 20 cars) and the job was outstanding. I dropped the car off (with no wires at all) he supplied all the materials, harness (outsourced the Gen 4 harness as it was his first) relays, alarm, interior lights, door lights, air con wiring, boot lights, door releases (3) calibrated the speedo. He also added some extra bits like relocated battery leads (so I can relocate the battery) dimmers on the doors, extra lights in the foot well. He rang a few weeks later to say the car started first time, :D he was a bit dissapointed as most of the old Windsors needed a tickle to get them going. It was $6k, IMO money well spent. The most impressive bit is the way the wiring has been hidden, it looks like a factory job. As someone else has said, jobs that only need to be done once should be done right. I have seen Cobra's wired by Auto Elect's that think its a normal car, great price BUT they look like a heap of spagetti has been dumped into the engine bay, not a pretty sight when you open the bonnet. STIFFY |
Thanks for that Stiffy.
I know just what you mean !! My dad was an aeronautical engineer, so I've been schooled in a lot of things, starting with " Son when you're up there, you can't pull over & park on a cloud to fix it...so do it right the 1st time and you won't be looking for somewhere to park !" oh yeah and his favourite twist on Murphy's Law ' O'Tooles Law-Murphy was an optimist ! I'm not anal on under bonnet being tidy..........well maybe a bit.....but nothing spoils it for me is when you ask "show me under the bonnet " on a great looking car and it all goes to ****e because of untidy cabling & plumbing etc |
the main prob with the isis unit is it looks funny and the wires stick out the front
where if i designed it i would stick them out the side or rear of unit the theory of thr unit is very good just needed a better deisgn on its appearance i recon if it was made in japan it would be much better looking hehehehehee we have this unit set up on a board at work if anyone is interested in seeing how it works |
Is there anybody using the ISIS system?
I have ordered one as the flexibility offered by a multiplex system together with the option of adding those circuits you "forgot" makes it look attractive. I'll keep you all updated as I install the system. Pecal |
what did u order
1 main and 2 power units ?? so far only one car i know of has it up and running its chic henrys camaro we fitted the unit last november make sure u tell them exactly what u want and how u want to set things up as if u ned to reprogram it u have to send it back to them and did u tell them where u plan to run the units as the can bus wires go from main centre unit to the fornt unit then all way to the back unit we had to cut and shut the can bus wires on chics car we are only other guys in country that have the programming stuff that i know of but we still need the guys in usa to actually write the files as its 3 hex files hopefully soon there will be a windows based programmer |
I've ordered a 3 cell unit - 1 Master and 2 Powercell together with an InCode programmer.
I've had some experience with similar systems in the heavy vehicle industry so I hope that will help me  |
