* I did not say sideshow was ripping anyone off. I was mere responding to his assertion that all cobra people are tight. * I made it clear that I was aware sideshow is a decent bloke in person, does good work, but offered my opinion that he comes across as a complete d**khead on the forum * I recommended that sideshow concentrate on building his business outside of the forum, or allow his partner to contribute for him on the forum, as Justin gives a much better account of himself and sideshows business then sideshow does (on a forum) * If sideshow wants to spit the dummy take his bat and ball and go home then all well and good. He is entitled to it. I am just offering some advice and an opinion. * If YOU have recieved good service from Jim, then great - tell everyone about it. I have no personal vandetta against anyone - any never have. I just offered my opinion and some advice based on my observations of how he is percieved on the forum, and how that MAY be affecting his business. He can do with that advice what he pleases. Cheers |
Hey woah guys
I didn't say sideshow was ripping me off, just generalising re the aftermarket parts ripoff, eg i've just purchased a whole bunch of 4,6,8 pin connectors from Larrikan @ 40c a pair, how much from Repco/Supercheap? ........$5-7 bucks! As I said in my post, sideshow has regularly responded to my electrical enquiries and I appreciate that........a thousand appologies, will you still sell the plugs to me:) As I can't get any bugger to supply these plugs other than sideshow I've no idea what they should cost. Now that i'm better informed i guess i'll have to cop it.....there goes this months budget:CRY: Oh and Wazza, us guys in Byron have the mung bean monopoly |
my 2 cents
I am a member of a few other forums and one in particular has a very strict policy about businesses who use the forum as a promotion tool. They deal with this by having a separate section for the business to do just that.
This is their response to a business that broke the rules. Yes, the mods moved it by request. The rules are simple, if you are a business and want to place an ad, there is a business section for you to use. This came about because there were businesses that were using the forum to prop up their business. There was post after post after post after post etc. with resto no.56, ressto no.57, resto no.59, resto no.60.....and it went on and on and on and on....and it was clear that the posts were clearly to promote their own business rather than a discussion for split enthusiasts. Having said that, there are many VW business owners on here that come here to chat and help others, and everyone gets on well. The DSK was started as a place where split owners could come and chat about splits. It was decided early on that there was to be no business sponsorship or ads etc., but as DSK grew, more and more businesses were using DSK to promote their business rather than use DSK as a chat forum. The same rules apply for all businesses, there is no favortism. If anyone has a problem with this, or wants to discuss it further, please feel free to PM me or any other mod to discuss it. Respectfully John I like this forum and the opportunity to chat about things but I do feel we need to keep business transactions out. If you are looking to promote your business then use the "Advertising Forum" on this site. Be part of the community for what it is, don't look for a return. My opinion only....... Phil |
I agree in principal with young Phil....
But if you go back to the start of this thread.... Byroncobra said..... " I'm having no luck finding connecting plugs to suit my T56 gearbox." To which, Sideshow basically replied..... " send me some pics and ill se what i got" I didn't see this as Sideshow's chance at retirement with this massive sale....it seemed to me that if the bloke was having trouble finding a bit....then Sideshow was giving him the option of ending the search. Most of the rest has been " Feather Fluffing " Although it seems that Sideshow might have his hands on the wrong arms when it comes to putting together a sentence...:LOL:......he seemed to be offering a bit of help, and all the digs at his pricing etc. seemed ( to me ) a bit strong. Too much to do today , and too nicer day to spend anymore time on this.......shouldn't we be doing something Cobra-ish instead of sniping ?:D:D Peace my brothers !!:):) Cheers, Wazza. |
Business and Cobra owners
Sideshow,
i Quote:
just the way I feel you have been treated. Alot of Cobra owners want things for nothing, they want FREE ADVICE and then complain that they listened to the wrong person when things didn't work out. What they forget is that people run businesses and FREE advice is taking money away from them. Thats where I agree with Philm and the like. Advertise your business on CC, the Cobra fraternity is quite small and word of mouth is worth alot more than an add on CC. Sideshow wired my Chev harness ( via John C) a fantastic job, right price and IT WORKED first time. I wouldn't get him to write a speach, But I wouldn't get me to mind your 18 year old daughter either:cool: Everyone has their strenght in life/business. I think we should educate potential Cobra builders what the TRUE price of building a nice car is. Not give them the wrong idea that they can get a NICE car on the road painted for under $70-80k. What it is all about
Advice taken,
Just unloaded the cobra off the trailer, took her to the drags last night. Could resist, went for a nice 30min drive arround beautifull Silverdale. BTW, I wish I was a tightass Cobra owner. Phil |
Thanks Jim for the help and advise you have given me.

Going fishing
HI Wazza,
I was just baiting Tomcat, the best I did was a 12.05.:D Don't want to break anything so close to the nationals. A 10 second pass without the gas is not too far off. Phil |
drags
very good phil,is that naturally aspirated, or have you added the gigle gas or some other power adder, i thought your car ran around the mid 11s to low 12s. you must be very happy cracking into the 10s. well done mate, regards tomcat

gotme, you certainly had me interested , especially with that speed 211km tomcat
|
the best I have run is an 11.2 @ 201kms without the gas.
The 60foot was 1.655. The car can go quicker it is the diff is not up to it, as the very next run I thought I would give it a bit more off the line and the diff exploded. That is why I have an aluminium 8.8 center in the shed, just need some time. I think I can get the 60 down to a 1.62 or something like that and that should see me comfortably in the 10s, then I run the gas for a shot at the 9s. Phil |

Any paint on that weapon of yours? Richard |
Dr Dr
Rich,
No paint as yet, engine bay SHOULD BE IN HIFILL by now. I am out of action for a while, so I cannot do my weekend work ( yes, before the jokes come, getting lunch, coffee, milk, sweeping the floor) it all adds up you know..... Christmas is the deadline, its back to a million parts and the garage staarts next week. Its hard enough to do stuff when you are able, let alone on 1 leg and a dodgy wheel chair,,, STIFFY ON WHEELS |

Dont let the stirrers get under your skin, life is too short. I was more than happy with the work you did on my Cobra and I will be back when I make some other changes later this year. Phil:) |
