Oil Accumulators

Hey everyone,

Been looking at oil accumulators, any recommendations ?
I think I have a preference to Accusump, mainly because of the additional things like the soleinoid control etc.
Opinions please :)

Oil Accumulators

I have two types, a Moroso 3.5 quart with a mechanical valve and the Accusump with the electronic solenoid in my other car. I like the electonic version as it is easier to use. Both of them work very well as they pre-lube the bearings before I turn the key. A wise investment.

I have a Accusump and love it!

I put the Moroso 3.5qt unit in mine as well with no solenoid. Works fine but if you get a solenoid type it will maintain pressure in the accumulator which then allows pre-lub before you start engine.

With my type the oil pressure equalizes throughout oil system when engine if off as the pressure is not trapped in accum. because no solenoid to close accum. outlet to engine etc.

I bought two accusumps. one for the daily driver and one for the Cobra. Have the electric valve. Pre-oil pressure is the feature I like. I am in the process of installing it in the Cobra, now / soon.

I use a Moroso 3.5 qt unit with a manual ball shut off valve; give the handle a quarter turn to maintain pressure before shutting off the engine.

Turn handle quarter turn release pressure for pre-lube before starting the engine, and start engine.

Not as convenient as solenod.

I use a 2qt Accusump with the elctric valve. After I spun a rod bearing at the track, I decided is was a good investment.

IMO, pre-lubing is not all that important for a car that gets driven regularly. And I mean like 2-3 times a month. The goal of pre-lubing is to help the engine last longer. A well build engine should easily last 100K miles under moderate to hard use. I only know of one Cobra that's been driven more than that. There may be others, but I onlly know of one.

For racing, I think it's a must. For a street car, it more of a "It helps me sleep" kinda thing.

But, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

thanks for that Bob, kinda like the idea of keeping my pants up using a belt & braces if you know what I mean....just a bit of insurance I reckon
