To work or be a dummy
Well guys for those of you who do not know me I sit on the side most of the time and watch with the occasional comment.
Now it time for help. My car is an old DAX first registered in 1988, comming form England as a body and chassie in 1986 I think. The paint is now tired and lots of little bits need to be freshened up. The car has been stripped down and delivered to Doug Pearce for a paint. I have been accumulating a number of small bits and peaces for the re-build over time. Last night my side pipes arrived and after seeing and touching I can not decide weather to have them work or not, so where better to get all the fact than the forum? Not that I realy have to ask, but OPIONS PLEASE:) |

I'm getting fake ones made up because it's one of the things that makes these cars so distinctive. You can still have a meaty sounding underbody system exiting near the ends of the side pipes and nobody gets burnt that way. How much would a set of empty stainless sidepipes weigh? |
If they are there then they need to work, it is one of the parts of the 427 SC cobra that makes the car what it is.

I agree with Sambo's reasoning plus you wont end up deaf when you arrive at your destination as the pipe outlets are about level with the seating location.
And you will struggle to maintain a reasonable noise level over such a short exhaust length. Cheers |
The real ones tend to colour or blue over time. Polished stainless fakies r the best if you value the skin on your leg and that of small children wanting to get a closer look at the car... imagine the lawsuit.... i think a good underbody system definitely delivers more power (with a balance pipe) and sounds better...

Live pipes
My car has had live pipes since I bought it 10 years ago and have never had a complaint about them from the plods (touch wood).

J. An upgrade - whoaaa. My side pipes never gave me any trouble. But Trev on site here has the car now and has added the protective covers. I was stopped once and given a breath test. The Policeman stood there and spoke with me for a few minutes about the Cobra. **) As I drove off, I noticed as he stepped back that he now had a large brown burn mark on his blue trousers..:LOL: Bernie |

I had to fit the side pipe covers for the rego and have since painted them black and cut them down shorter , not as noticable Have a look in the gallery of Heidelberg as he has a different setup with a 100mm odd cover that doesnt look ,like a cover at all. Trev |
