Seat Belts Pull Up or Down
I was getting ready to order my five point harness and found that you can order the lap belts to pull up or pull down. I was going to order them to pull down, but then I ran one across a post where the room to pull down was raised but wasn't really resolved.
So, I am asking the opinion of those that have driven their car for awhile. Is it better to have pull up or pull down lap belts with the limited room in the car. Thanks Wayne |
Let me point out that you will only adjust them once... twice at the most, so it really doesn't matter. Well, I guess if you let somebody who is really fat, or really thin, drive your car... or if you drive with a bulky coat in the winter and a t-shirt in the summer, then you might adjust them from time to time. Regardless, mine pull down to adjust and there's plenty of room and they work just fine.

Aren't pull-downs what most drivers use when solo, with pull-ups being for vehicles where the pit crew might assist in strapping a driver in?

Less likely to flap in your face if they're pull down. Of course, I've never seen pull-up ones, so I shouldn't mention it.
What I will mention is I always do the passenger belt up when I drive by myself. I don't want the wind to cause one to flap and a metal end ding the paint or chip the fibreglass. I suspect a five-point is better than my 4-point. I find the shoulder straps pull the lap belt up over time. Next thing I know, the whole mess is getting close to chest hieght. |
Good point. So, if you tighten the passenger belt up when empty, it may be easier if it was pull up??

I believe they are only referring to the lap belts. The shoulder straps are usually all down but the lap belt can go either way. The pull ups are much easier to adjust as lap belts.

Another question.
I didn't see where you could buy quality four points. I was just not going to install the submarine belt on the five point. Am I thinking correct? Wayne |

You may want to consider pull ups. There is not a lot of room on the side of the seats. If I knew there were pull ups, I would go with them.

Pull up belts where there is limited room---pull down shoulder straps, but be careful with how long the ends are---I once couldn't get out of the harness because a shoulder strap end got between the release mechanism
