Flange gaskets
Where are you getting your flange gaskets from?
My approx.measurements are: Bolt holes between the pipes( but outside the pipe edges) about 4 3/8 center to center Pipes about 2" or slightly less center to center Flange 5" square Is this unique to B&B? Lou |
Check Finishline, not sure what their dimensions are but they have the 4 to4 gaskets.
Not sure how good theirs are. I make my own from MrGasket material. Finishline advertises here on CC. |
Lou, I have heard that a lot of guys are using red RTV silicone, putting a big bead on and letting it set overnight. Then assemble the next day.

I use Remflex carbon gaskets
ABSOLUTELY the best I use PN RF8032 which fits a SPF flange which I think is pretty close to your measurements Also use them for my headers. NEVER a leak after going to these Remflex 866-641-7325 |
Wayne, you're correct but your scheduling is a little off. Put on the Red RTV,let it "skin", about 10 to 15 minutes, bolt on your sidepipes, then let it set up overnight. Trim off the excess the next day. Personally, I like the Copper RTV.
Lou, we've always used the RTV because we haven't found any gaskets that didn't eventually blowout. |
This is the gasket material that I use. I have heard of using the red RTV also, but I have never tried it.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-5961/ You can make four gaskets from this sized sheet. |
I use the Copper RTV. I have run mine without gasket or RTV and could not tell the difference.

Am I the only one that had to add a beveled, steel shim between the headers and sidepipes to get the driver's side and passenger side to come through the body at the same height?

Thanks for the information guys.

There was a place online that sold them, but I can't recall where. I made mine from a piece of square steel plate the same size as the flange plate. I drilled 4 large holes to match the header/sidepipe holes and clamped the steel in the saw so it would cut the steel block on a taper. I think mine went from about 1/16" to 3/16" on the opposite corner of the plate. I cut one for each side of the car because one needed to be angled down... the other needed to be angled up. When I was done, the sidepipes were very close to being the same height when they come through the cutouts in the body.
Mike *UPDATE* I found the wedge shims at Breeze Automotive. They may be Factory Five specific depending on the hole pattern in the shims. Mine weren't as fancy as these, but they worked perfectly and I just happened to have a piece of steel stock the right size. Here's the website for the Breeze shims... http://www.breezeautomotive.com/search.php?search=wedge |
Thanks Mike, good info.
