Battery Size

I am getting close to test firing the engine. Can anyone recommend a battery?

Go with an Optima type of battery with no leaks and or spills.

Optima Battery is the way to go. Expensive but worth it.

Bttery

OHBOY,

SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE OPTIMA BATTERIES - INCLUDING ME. MOST OF THE PROBLEMS SEEM TO COME FROM ONE OF TWO CONDITIONS.

1. LETTING THE BATTERY GO TO NEAR DEPLETION - IT WON'T ALWAYS FULLY RE-CHARGE. INCLUDING THE "DEEP DISCHARGE MARINE TYPE BATTERY".

2. JUST THE OPPOSITE: LEAVING IT ON A "TRICKLE CHARGER".

I POWER MY TRAILER WITH A BANK OF "YELLOW-TOP" OPPTIMA BATTERIES. I HAD ONE BATTERY NOT HOLD A CHARGE AFTER ABOUT THREE MONTHS. THE DEALER REPLACED IT WITHOUT ANY ARGUEMENT. HE COMMENTED TO HIS HELPER WHO CAME TO THE COUNTER TO CARRY THE BATTERY AWAY, "YEAH, WE GOT ANOTHER ONE". AFTER ENGAGING THE COUNTER MAN IN SOME FRIENDLY CONVERSATION HE CONFIDED THAT IT "HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WITH THOSE OPTIMAS". NOW - I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THE "ALL THE TIME" STATEMENT BUT APPARENTLY IT'S NOT UNCOMMON EITHER.

I DECIDED NOT TO USE AN OPTIMA BATTERY IN MY ERA COBRA. I WENT WITH AN "ODDESEY BATTERY" INSTEAD. ODDESEY USES A TECHNOLOGY ABOUT ONE OR TWO STEPS BEYOND GELL CELL OR RING CELL TECHNOLOGY. THE BATTERY IS CONSIDERABLY SMALLER (ALTHOUGH IT WEIGHS ABOUT THE SAME) BUT IT DELIVERS THE HIGHEST OUPTPUT AMPERAGE IN THE INDUSTRY. ADDITIONALLY, IT DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE WHETHER IT'S DEEP CYCLED OR LEFT ON A MINI CHARGER FOREVER. ALSO - VERY IMPORTANT POINT HERE - THERE IS "NO LIQUID OR GELATINOUS SUBSTANCE" INSIDE. IT IS COMPLETELY SOLID. JUST BECAUSE A BATTERY IS "SEALED" DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT WONT LEAK. ESPECIALLY IN A CRASH.

I SUGGEST THAT YOU CHECK OUT THE ODDESEY BEFORE YOU DROP SOME BIG BUCKS ON ANY BATTERY. AS I RECALL, THE ODDESEY WAS ONLY A FEW BUCKS MORE THAN THE OPTIMA.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

Go with what fits and works good for the size cranking amps you need, I cant see powering to many accessories in a cobra, and you have plenty of room back there, after you put the side wall up that covers it you will never see it again.

Good luck.
