Footbox Question

Foot box/Fire wall question.

I am at the point where I can start the installation of my interior. I noticed that at the bottom of the footbox on both the passengers & driver's side there is a small gap/opening that allows you to see the headers. The gap is created between the body and the footbox. This would mean that the headers would be about 4 inches away from the carpet padding. Does this cause a problem/fire hazard. Did you just install the padding or close off the gap between the body and footbox? It is probably no big deal but I tend to over-engineer everything. Don't want my cobra to go up in blaze of glory!!

Thanks for your input.

Jim. I am by no means an expert on your question, however, I have your same car with a 428 in it. I assembled it in my garage. My exaust pipes are maybe 1" from the foot box. I installed insulation padding between my carpet and fiberglass on the inside and a 1/8 inch heat cloth made from ceramic material on the outside of the footbox.
I also had the pipes ceramic coated and wraped the #4 and #8 pipes with a thicker ceramic blanket. I did all that so my feet wouldn't melt. I never thought about fire.
Also, I sealed all openings from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment.

Mines sealed shut. Had B+B do mine. My car was a combination of the donor kit plus alot of other things. Jim
