Front tires Rub
Hello again,
I have having trouble with my front driver's side tire rubbing my inner fender. It happens if I hang a left turn and even more if I hit a bump during a left turn. Not what I had in mind when I think about burning rubber! I have the tires and rims B&B suggested installing. (weld rims 3-1/2 backspacing with 255 60/15 tires) Anyone else have the same problem?? I don't think I can squeeze any more room from the inner fenders. I was thinking of switching to a 4 -1/2 backspacing rim so they will fall inside the fender more but I am not sure if it will make the rubbing problem better or worse. I can now smoke 3 out of 4 tires!! Thanks Jim |
Hi Jim. Our standard size tires that we install on the TKMinus cars are 235-60x15 on the front and 275 rear. Those taller tires makes it a little cramped in there. If you have the tubular fronts arms, you can go to a deeper rim. It will still rub, but in a different spot. If you have the MII control arms, the back of the rim will rub the upper arm. The easiest and cheapest fix is to unbolt the fender liner and move it back a little bit.

Re tire rub
Jim,
I don't know what kind of Cobra you have but if it is just rubbing on the one front fender and you have coil-overs you could probably adjust the ride height enough to make it clear. I did run 255-40-15 racing tires on mine I think it was and I never had a problem but I now have the 235-60-15s and I just adjusted my ride height by about a quarter of an inch and that took care of that. Just be careful about jacking weight around if you are running the car on a track. Ron61 Ron |

FRONT WHEEL RUB

MY FRONT WHEELS RUB THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS WHEN TURNED ALL THE WAY. I WAS TALKING TO A GUY AT THE SPRING FLING AND HE SAID THERE IS A FACTORY CLIP UNDER THE TIE-ROD BOOT THAT YOU CAN REMOVE (BRAKE OUT). YOU MAKE WIDER REPLACEMENT FROM 3/4"OR 1" PVC AND CUT IT SO YOU CAN SLIP IT OVER THE ROD. TY-WAP IT OR PUT A HOSE CLAMP TO KEEP IT IN PLACE. REPLACE THE BOOT. I HAVE NOT LOOK AT MINE. BUT THAT THE WAY I REMEMBER IT. ANYONE CAN JUMP IN AND HELP US ON TIRE RUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
