Tremec 3550

I'm looking for some info on changing from a C6 automatic trans to a Tremec 3550 in my '94 B&B. Will the trans clear the "X' crossmember in the frame, or will the frame need modified. Also, what clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder setup to use.

Dana, to be on the safe side you need to cut a happy face on the top of your x-member. E-mail Bryan at bbmfg@jscomm.net or call him or Karen at 417-472-3547 and have them send you a picture. The master is a 3/4" bore Tilton. Also ask Bryan the # of the master and slave.

I had no problem at all, I went from a C4 to my Tremec 3550, I used the same driveshaft, it was hard to find a shifter lever at a good price so I used the one that I had for my hurst lockout auto shifter, I used the mech. clutch setup, maybe some day I will go to the Hyd setup that would be the perferd.

I am going from a T-5 to a 3550. Any suggestions?

OhBuoy 03-15-2004 11:52 PM

Barry at B&B indicated that the newer frames have the happy face in them already. I have the Tremec in, but ran into an issue while lining it up, so I am probably taking it back out of the car again to make sure that everything is okay inside. That is 2 hours that my life, body and huevos will not get back, but oh well. One thing that I noticed is that the Tremec is sitting alot higher off of the tranny cross member than the T-5 did. Do I need a different trans mount? Do I need a spacer or washers? Or do I just tighten it down and draw it into the cross member?

Spacer. The reason I don't like washers is most of them are cheaply made and will compress and distort and in time the mount will be "loose."

2 Hours? That's just a blink of an eye compared to the time I've wasted. Eating, sleeping, finishing up on a cobra and getting it ready for delivery when the owner calls and want something else added on or changed, aaarrrgggghhh!!!!!!!!!!

Who makes a spacer?

If you are discussing a Tremec to Bellhousing spacer David Kee sells them

Joe, it's a spacer between the tranny cross member and the rubber mount.

Tom, give me a guesstimate on the thickness of the spacer and I'll see if Barry has or can make one.
