Tires
I would like to run 235-60-15 and 295/50/15 on my car and was wondering if anyone has pictures of that on there car. I know most people run the 275/50/15 but I would like to get as much tire under the car as possible. I do not want them to hang outside the fenders also.

This is likely the answer you don't want to hear, but:
235/45ZR17's front, and 275/40ZR17 have worked fine foir me. 295's should tuck under sheelwells if you backspace wheels correctly. But honestly, (and here we get back to originality vs practicality), 17"ers are the way to go for performance. They do give the car a more "all buiness" look of todays Musclecars, as opposed to yesteryears antiques. I will say this: Once you bolt on a set of 17's and take 'er out for a test drive: 1) You won't believe it's the same car, 2) you won't put your 15's back on. |
I have to agree with Jack. I have both 15's and 17's which I switch back and forth based upon my whim. I do like the period correct look better. But, whenever I drive the car on 17s and then switch back, I'm appalled at how bad the 15s are in comparison.

tt400, either call or e-mail Bryan at the shop and see if he will send you a picture of his personal car. His silver and black car has 295/50/16 on the rear and are tucked inside the fenderwells with our standard narrowed 9 inch.

I have 235/60/15 front with 8 in. rims, 295/50/15 rear with 10 in. rims. Pictures on B&B website.

Don what rear axle and backspacing are you using? I really like the looks of Jeff Sparks car in the way it sits. |
6.5 Backspaceing with 58.5 flange to flange on rear axle.

I have 295 on rear. There are two pics in my gallery. My setup is 7X15 4.5 backspacing 235-60-15 front 8x15 4.5 backspacing 295-50-15 rear The front rims look alittle flat and the rear tires go in at a angle. Deeper wheels on the front and the back would look better. Im thinking 8'' in front and 10'' in the rear. You would have to change the backspacing and that Im not sure about. |

I agree with Jack and Clay. While 17" don't look exactly right, you have a wide selection and they stick like glue. I'm running Michelin Pilots, 245/45x17 front and 275/40x17 rear, acceleration and cornering is incredible. |
While I am sure the "17" hook up the best I just want to go with the period correct 15" wheels.

I hope I don't step on anyone's toes here, that's not my intent. I just think the 17's look to big for such a small car. I know the bigger that big wheels on cars today is very popular. On a lot of custom hot rods with small profile tires, they look radical but, on Camaro's, Firebirds, and other smaller cars like, the cobra, it's just too much wheel, they look bigger than the car. I would love to get a tire size of 335/35 or so but, a 15x10 is the largest I can fit. I may even narrow the axles, frame or wheel wells to get there. It's too bad there isn't a bigger selection for 15". The 17's make the cobra to "Retro" for my taste. Maybe someday, I'll change my mind ?
