Trailer Strap Points
Where is the best place to put the tow straps at the front of the B&B? When I took my car for inspection, I looped axle straps over the lower control arms, however, this did not seem like the strongest part to be attaching to. When it went to the painter, I strapped to the frame member behind the radiator, and this worked well, however, this is not accessible when the radiator is on.

I can't comment on a B&B in particular, but I've seen some cars secured by running each strap through a wheel (between the spokes) and back to a secure point on the trailer.

This will be a good learning tool for me too. When I trailered to DVSFIII, it was my first time trailering. My mechanic put the car on the trailer for me, and some Flingers helped me get it back on. My mechanic went around the rear axle (if I remember right). When we put the car back on the trailer, they did it in an "x" fashion, crossing the left strap to the right side of the car, and vice versa. Is either way better than the other?

You could bolt on a set of hooks to the frame or have some loops welded onto the frame. Just remember you are trying to prevent the car from moving not trying to pick it up so you do not need an attachment point that is stong enough to stop a sherman tank. I have used the thru the rim method on my Crager ss rims but my race rims do not have a big enougn hole to pass the straps thru. I have my straps hooking to my front control arms and the rear axle. |

The reason for X-crossing the straps in the back is to keep the car from shifting side-to-side. We do the same thing when tying up large boats in a slip. They're called "spring lines." I use the control arms in front. I figure if they can handle being punished on the road (imagine the force on 'em when you toss it into a high-speed curve), they can handle being strapped down in a trailer. |
OK, front LCAs it is, with a cross in the back. Looking forward to getting insurance and taking her to the Fling!!

I would suggest getting a pair of over the wheel tie downs for the front. You can get them at most any parts supply store.

I have a new [never used] set of over the wheel tie downs if you are intrested let me know. I don't remember what I paid for them but I'll be fair. They are adjustable to most any tire size.

Granted these were the U-Haul specials, however, when I used the U-Haul, the over the tires seemed to want to pull to the side. Also, if I did go that route, were do I put the second mount point, or do some of them just attach to the trailer in one spot?
