New engine sitting too high?
I got the new engine in, and it was seeming a little high to me. Granted, it is the FRPP 347 crate engine, and I have been told that the exhaust will raise up a little, but everything was seeming high (like the alternator and radiator hose). The engine also seems to pitch downware toward the rear. I tried getting it to settle in, but it wont. The motor mounts are at the bottom of the hole, so it could settle in about 1/2" more. How can I best determine if it is level front to back? I did level it side to side. Also, has anyone used the Poly engine mounts? If so, did you notice it sitting higher?
Finally, with a tremec transmission, is it necessary to use a spacer? Tom Boyce |
Well, I found the answer! The engine mounts were 1/2" to 3/4" too high. I used poly mounts from a 66-69 Mustang. The mounts are supposed to be for a 77-78 LTD. Gonna raise it up this weekend and swap the mounts.

how high is your trans in the back?[IMG]cobra[/IMG]mine is about 2 1/2" measured from top of frame to center output shaft trans. do your motor mounts look like this ?

I have not gotten it to sit in yet. I have a Tremec, which I think requires a spacer. previously, I had the standard transmission mount in there with 3 washers to raise it up a little. Those look like my engine mounts.
