bandb 351 air cleaner clearance?

just put the body on and it looks like there is very little clearance. i have the edelbrock fuel injection, 73 351, alu heads ,low motor mounts, i wanted the fined cobra 20" x9" air cleaner from branda , will it fit ???????? how tall is it really? (ohboy) what is your set up?

When I had a SB in mine I had that air cleaner and it would rub (ever so slightly).

I am running a 347 with the oval air cleaner. I have a vic jr intake which is fairly tall, an I have clearance. Oddly, with the new engine, my clearance issue is now at the front of the hood scoop. It is a tight fit between the base of the cleaner and the opening of the scoop.

It is great to finally see some activity in this forum. I love my B&B. I have occasional frustrations, but overall, they are a great company. I think that their small size is there strength and their weakness.

I've got a 351W with the oval air cleaner. I too am a little tight at the front. Before paint I reworked the bottom part of the hood at the front of the air scoop. It needed straightening out anyway. It's close on top but it fits OK.

I Have both and Edelbrock RPM performer manifold and a 750 cfm Performer carb.

351 Windsor Hood Clearance

I too am at that stage. I did have a Air gap it was too tall , Then tried a stealth intake it was too tall so i guess im going with a Ededlbrock plain performer its about the shortest. I dont remember having this isue before on my old one . i think i went and redone my engine mounts. Lonny

Another hood clearance question

Hey,
Do most of the hood clearance issues come from using fuel injection or carburetors? I want to run a carbureted 351w... are there any particular intake/carburetor combinations I need to avoid for clearance reasons?

You should be fine with a carb but keep in mind you may need to run a different air cleaner other than the 20" oblong style. Most other air cleaners should fit fine. I am not sure about FI.

I guess the air gap intake is to tall and that is what edelbrock uses on there fuel injection. Also the msd distributer seems to tall unless there is a detent in the botom of the air cleaner? Its just too close to tell with out buying one. So many problems not enough money to buy my way out.

Mine rubbed. What to buy mine??

i have the small oval air cleaner, check out my gallery. running a 800 carb.
had to shave 1/4 inch off the bottom of air cleaner and it fits perfect.
