Rear Wheels
OK, I have a 8.8 Fox width . How wide and what backspace can I run? I have talked to several wheel suppliers and get differant answers. Iam ready to order my wheels and iam thoroughly confused. These things are to expensive to get this wrong.:JEKYLHYDE

There are lots of post on this subject. I would suggest doing a search using the keyword backspacing. With the advanced search feature you can limit it to the B & B Forum.
My rear tires are 275 - 60 - 15 with an 8.8 rear. Don't remember the backspacing off hand. |
Do you have a narrowed rearend? If so you can run up to 10" wide rims with a 5 1/2" back space and run the 295-50 X 15" tires and still have your tires tuck under your fenders on the rear. My front backspace is 3 1/2" and I am running the tubular front A-Arms.

The rearend is not narrowed, standard Mustang converted to 5 lug and disk. I talked to the guys at North Race Cars, about a set of Team III"s and he didn't think the backspace given in the manual was correct for my set up.

I ran a set of 6 1/2" backspace wheels with my 8.8 like yours and they fit under the fender (almost). Your Mustang Fox Body rearend is between 58 and 61" wide and what B&B PROVIDES NOW is a 52" wide axel.
Here is a link for a narrowed 9" housing, axels, bearings, and retainers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9-For...QQcmdZViewItem This would bolt into the same place as your 8.8 but you would need to get some brakes and a third member. Clois |
clois have you bought from these guys ? was thinking of getting a 3.5 ratio pumpkin and switching it out . My 3.0 rear is too tall. I need some place that i can trust that doesnt want 500 bucks.

pmfranke, I am interested in doing the same thing. I have 3.0 on a 9" and want to go to 3.5. I have been shopping around for third member as I really don't want to rebuild mine.
Jeroka, my 2 cent's worth is that you're probably right about the manual being incorrect for your set up. I would not go with the manual numbers, but a call to Barry or Brian might do you some good. If you didn't get the optional tubular front end you might be limited on your back space options. Rob |
