Ford 9"

I have a 9" but it looks like the yoke is from a 8.8 flat bolt on no u-joints in the rear so did some come this way? My dum ? for the day.

Thanks

Yes, I believe some of the Lincolns and Large Ford Cars had this type of pinion flange.

A lot of the big fords and explorers used a flange type connection. You can order the right yoke from Summit or Jegs. Check you gear ratio. Mine was so tall I had to replace the ring and pinion along with the yoke.

I think all of the flanges are the same on this type. Try a wrecking yard for a rear driveshaft flange from a MK IV Lincoln with a 460 and you will get the round flange that bolts to your pinion flange and it will be set up for the large u-joint. It would not hurt to make a good sketch of the pinion flange w/ measurements to make sure thet the DS flange will work. If there is a tag on the differential, post all the numbers and I can find out where it came from and maybe steer you the right direction!

Mine has the flange. I've never heard that there's any advantage to the yoke or flange style. To me, the flange style LOOKS stronger, but I don't really know. I did discover that I had a 9 3/4 ring gear that I think was only used in one or two years of Linclons. (the housing is the same) I changed out the third member, installed 3.50 Richmond gears and a Powertrax system that works great. I do get the occasional click on some turns, but not nearly as nasty as a locker and it certainly does drive both wheels nicely. No clutch slippage like with a posi.
