Dull Aluminum Bumpers AKA "Over-riders" I think

Since most manufacturers get their parts from the same place, this may not be a specific question related to the B & B Forum.

My front and rear bumpers AKA over-riders as I think they are called are made of polished aluminum and they have some dull spots. Tried polishing them with little improvement.

Anyone else have the same issue? I think the dull spots have something to do with the casting. Anyone have them chrome plated...can you plate aluminum???

Thanks

If you want them really shiney...use some really fine grit paper and finish of with jewlers rouge and a lot of elbow power

Yes you can chrome plate aluminum. If you want or you can take it to a good plating shop and they can polish it for you and then you can have it clear coated if you feel the need.

The overriders that came on my SPF are chrome plated steel. The chrome plating is in excellent shape, after 5 years in NE by the ocean. But the insides were showing some rust. Chrome never get to the inside of curved pieces. I glass beaded the inside, and then painted with "Almost chrome" paint I got from Eastwood. They now look fantastic.

Those bumpers are nice castings. Keeping bare aluminum looking good is a pain. Chrome 'em and do the gas cap while your at it.

I've never tried clear coat, but it has to be better than bare aluminum.
