Seats- anyone use something different for a B & B?
My butt is getting a little sore from the 1" of compacted foam called a seat bottom.
Anyone make any changes or swap out the seats and want to share their experiences/pictures? Thanks |
Well I went to an high back Ultra Shield custom built road racing seat. I am not sure that my padding is any more than a 1/4" thick but I find them comfortable. Might be the angle of the seat or the fact that they are bolstered on the sides. My wife even considers much more comfortable than the barrel type seats that come with most Cobras. However, our longest drive has only been 5 hours, so if you are considering traveling across country these seats may not be for you.
By the way I am about 6' tall and about 190# if that means anything. C |
i put some high density foam in my seats. The foam came a camping pad from ensolite that i used to use in boy scouts.It was easy to add all i needed was a staple gun when putting it back together.The seat still looks the same and did'nt cost anything.Much better on long trips .go for it!

My first cobra was a B&B. I drove it home to AZ from San Diego. I found the seat awful unless driving short distances. I took it to my son-in-law's upholstery shop and they added some high density foam. It was better but the only solution would be to to get tube framed seats. $$$$ Cobra Restorers has them.

There is a simple fix. Take the cover off. Scoop out the foam with a long knife in a bowl shape leaving almost no foam in the back-middle. It is surprisingly comfortable and it also lowers you. No more sore butt. It fixed my vision problem as well since my eye line beforehand was just below the top of the windshield.

That's the odd thing about it. It feels like a very comfortable seat and never bottoms (ugh, pun) out. I don't know why it works, it just does.

Hate to say this, but I installed the new Superformance seats in mine. I am a little taller and the seat back is actually UNDER the front of the rear deck BTW, I also removed the upper part of the bulkhead and put it in the trunk. Looks good, feels good. I can even drive the car with slightly modified tennies.

How do you modify your tennis shoes? I like the PUMA shoes for driving if I am not wearing my racing shoes. A word of warning ---DO NOT WEAR FLOP FLOPS TO DRIVE IN because they will hang up on you :) :) Clois |

Just finished the seats using the B&B shells and they feel pretty good. Per previous posts the key is the foam! For the back I used 1/4" closed cell high density foam for the base layer. This is the foam they used for vinyl tops. Even though it is only 1/4" it will not bottom. Followed that with 1" of high density 60# foam, and then 1/2" low density glued to the leather.
For the seat base started with the 1/4" closed cell, 1" high density were you butt fits and 2" of high density under your thighs. Topped this with 1/4" closed cell, and 1/2" low density on the leather. The seat mounts need to be higher in front (3/4") so the seat tips backward until the bottom of your leg touchs the seat in driving position. A few more dollars and some time but a very comfortable seat. |
my fix, was buying a clubman high back seat, and taking the thing apart, and modifing to fit me and the car, then while your in there, put some heated seats in there, thats the only right way to do it, mine are great.
