taking body off car
I'm planning on taking the body off my car which was bought used and would like to know how many problems I'd have.
I'm going to redo the drivetrain and repaint the body. Does anyone know the steps of removing the main items so I can get the body and frame separated without damaging anything? Thanks. |
HI PSC50! One Question is your inner panels fiberglassed in?And rear inner panels as well ? If they are you will have to start by cutting them right down the seem and then you can start by unbolting the screws that attach the body otherwise you wont get the body off ! you can reuse the inner body panels if you want to by fiberglassing them back in after you get what you want to do to the frame and ect .Or ask Brian and he can set you up with new panels if you dont want to use your old ones ! They do look like they're glassed together. I guess that means not all just glassed together and bolted to the frame. It looks like I may not be able to take it off very easily. Thanks for the response. |

A sawzall with a long very flexible thin metal cutting blade will do by grinding the tip to a sharp point to punch thru between the glass panels and tube in the area where it's been glassed around then flex the blade and saw away. This is a poor method of mounting the under body panels to a mild steel frame and is usually done sloppy with general purpose resin and will have a lot of air bubbles in it to make your job easier. Try a good rubber hammer hitting the panels flatly to pop them loose. GOOD LUCK |
