Front Coilover Springs

hello all, i had the enhanced inspection done today and came across something odd. when the front of my bdr roadster was jacked up and wheels removed, the springs were not in contact with the upper shock plate. the inspection mechanic was baffled along with myself. the springs are just flopping around with the car in the air. is this normal or do i have a problem? i never seen anything like it on any suspension i have seen. the car seems to sit fine and drive fine. any suggestions would be great. thanks for any help.

I think that the slack would be because the shock and spring werent designed for that much suspension droop. Just as it would have compression limits it has extended travel limits. If it was holding in full droop your front end would be jacked up in front.

thanks for the info.

This is a common issue. The problem arises when you let the car back down, and recompress the spring. It can fall out of alignment with the had, and then things break. Use a couple of zip ties to attach the spring to the hat.
