BDR Passenger roll bar / Stripes

1 Attachment(s)
Im looking at purchasing a BDR. I looked at one and noticed the position of the roll bars and the strips are not even. I think these were installed by BDR and not added on later. Is this common? Are the passenger bars wider?

Thanks

That looks to be a pretty old car. I don't know, the grommets also appear to be different from one side to the other. On a car of that age there are a number of reasons the stripes could be off like a repaint/repair... the difference in the grommets has me thinking.

Do you know the chassis number of that car?

Hi Jay, I took a close look too. The second Roll bar may have been added at a later date rather than the at the factory.

This is odd. After viewing this post, I looked at a pic of #139 taken 2-3 years ago.

Yes, I saw an offset.

My duals were installed at the factory in Durban, prior to delivery, I remember because my dealer triple-checked with me before the chassis was shipped from SA.

Possibly some offset with the frame mounts? Possibly a body-drilling template that was a few MM off?

I have to ass-soom that the holes in the body were very carefully cut after mounting the body to the chassis.

I will try to post a pic if I can meet file-size limits.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I just spewed. WTF, that IS my car!!! LOL!!!

Just a different photo crop!

I also noted that in the pic, the mounting flange on the RH roll bar seems to be slightly larger in diameter and slightly thicker. Never saw that before, after 5-1/2 years.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch in Durban, to answer 68 Fastback's question...

That's what I thought.

UT,
How much of Gunrack was repainted from the off roading trips?

I have backdraft #84 with dual rollbars and they are right on the money as far as spaceing goes. The stripes are right on center and i measured them.

The labels on the headlight and wiper switches aren't horizontal either. Sheesh, what a pos.

I am just kidding. Just in case someone that doesn't know takes it the wrong way.

Hi there,

I have BDR # 80 with dual roll bars and they are evenly spaced unlike the ones in the photo.

It did not take long for me to make a mess… … I cropped the image to protect the innocent, as the saying goes. When I read gunracks “WTF” I hit the floor. I could just see the look. I truly hope I did not offend. I have learned a lesson (just ask). Are the knobs offcenter too:LOL:

Snout was repainted, after we dug the topsoil out of the cowl.

Gatorac, I just bought it, I didn't build it. I have no other BDR to compare it to.

(Or anyone qualified to fix its birth defects, for that matter)

Why is my speedo about 30 degrees out-of-vertical? Tradition?

No harm, 68.

I thought there was a pic here of some barbed wire effects down the back?
