A question on Shocks???

HI everyone, can anyone explain why in your BDR rear ends you don't run a shock arrangement that allows for manual dampner adjustment like a coilover shock???

I have a set of Bilsteins for firm and a set of Gabriels for soft in my BDR TD but on my old cars we use adjustable coilovers for track work. Has anyone gone down this route. Just makes more sense for quick adjustability?

Even on most of our road cobras here in Oz we run adjustable dampners??

Is this an American thing or is it specific to the BMW rear end...?

I think it is specific to the BMW rearend. You can make coil overs work .

Clois is right. It's all about the BMW set up for the rear end. They use springs within the upper control arms and seperate shocks as you have seen. My suggestion so that you do not have to change shocks all the time when you have track days, I would get the KYBs gas ajust. They are perfectly in the middle of the Bilsteens and the Gabriels.

If you aren't changing springs or spring rates...I wouldn't sweat the shocks...

Rear shocks

In prep for the Big Bend Open Road Race I replaced the original Gabriels on #621 with KYB's. I like very much so far, real test comes next Saturday.

There are fully adjustable units out there, with remote reservoirs and other cool stuf that I can't afford. To me it is a $$ thing.

Dont laugh

I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SHOCKS ON THE REAR AND FIND MY BEST LAP TIMES COME FROM THE STD GABRIELS.:3DSMILE:

IF U ARE RUNNING ROAD TIRES ON THE ROAD COURSE U MIGHT TRY STD REAR SPRINGS,ESPECIALLY IF THE TRACK IS A BIT BUMPY.

SLICKS ARE BETTER WITH RACE SPRINGS.:D

TAKE CARE
