Front end height?

After looking through a lot of threads I finally said; just ask the question. After looking at my car last weekend it is currently sitting higher than ALL of the other cars at the Roundup. I'm about twice as high as i think I should be (2 fists)
What is the recommended distance from the ground to the front nose piece. My thoughts are that the front wheel or tire clearance should take first priority, and once set; the strength of the front suspension should keep things from rubbing. Should I use the frame as a reference or the wheel well- body?
I realize that after lowering the front end I will need to be realigned. I've got a small block so the wieght change should be minimal.:o

When you say two fists, are you talking like 6"? I thought the general measurement was about two fingers, or about 1 1/2" between the top of the tire and the outer fender lip.

Yea i'm up about 6 3/4" at the nose and a little under 3" at the tires. I am thinking iif I drop it 2" to start with then drive it and make sure it doesn't rub. I guess it doesn't really matter but I am thinking the lower the better.

You should have 2-3 fingers between tire and fender. Someone has your car cranked all the way up. Must handle like poop...

It's been a project (aren't they all?) but I just really got back together last week! I'm on the third engine. It's been a great learning experience costly but good. Now I am spending my time on top instead of underneath or bent over. Most of my problems were a carryover from the first owner. He owned a Cobra, I'm a Cobra owner and learning every day. The ass end really drops when you get on it. I'm going to lower the front a couple of inches and see how it handles.
I think i can jack it up and work an inch at a time until I get the level i think would be best. I imagine the springs and shocks should maintain the balance then I can get it aligned again.
I've got the guy that worked on the Morrisons here in town before they moved so he has given me great info. When I get things to my liking he will straighten me out.
Thanks all.
