Easiest way to replace brake switch
 
Hi Folks...anyone have the easiest way to remove/replace the brake switch on the master cylinder ? Remove the side SS vent? Special wrench?

I just used a pair of channel locks to take off the old switch. I didn't have to take off the side gill. It is easy to get to. I used a (I believe was a 1" socket) socket and ratchet to put on the new one. You have to tighten it quite a bit to keep it from leaking. It didn't take more than 15 mins.

I am assuming that you mean the stoplight switch. You can remove it gently with channel locks. Just open the hood, no removing anything else. Don't crush it. use thread tape when installing the new one. You may have to take the old one to the parts store to match it, Advance Auto parts has them. Have the new one ready to go if you can and you will lose very little fluid or use a pipe plug in the MC when you go get the part. I have replaced mine twice. Heat from the headers will cook them. Kind of a poor design.

Hi Folks...well nothing is as easy as it seems. The brake light switch was installed by a gorilla I think, so....remove the side vent, get the big wrench, got it out...new switch in..works !!! But since the vent is out, polish it up...oh, the inner body needs some touch up paint while Im here....now the right side vent needs polished, paint inner body...so the 20 min job...3 hours ! But, its always a pleaure to spend some time in the garage !
