Racing Harnesses

I wasn't real thrilled with how complicated the "latch and link" harnesses were in my new Backdraft, so I went searching and found these Corbeau Racing Harnesses that have a camlock release that is much easier to use. I also like the look of them. I think Backdraft or their dealers might want to think about offering these as an upgrade to the standard. I will have to put some felt or something on the back side of the camlock to make sure it isn't too cold or hot in the summer, should I be lucky enough to have young lady passenger riding with an exposed stomach. ;)

Looks nice. How's the adjustment?

vatdevil 01-20-2012 07:27 PM

Installed the same ones in 5 point. Very user friendly.

Adjustment is good Jay. I ended up cutting a bit from all four belts because of the excess amount of belt....very...very, good quality. You would not be disappointed.

Yes...vatdevil...they are technically a 5 point, but I just left the 2" belt "between the legs" fifth point off and it works great. You are right...very user friendly. That is what I wanted...not a lot of explaining to passengers of how it works!!

I have never used anything but the latch type for 30 plus years and find they work just fine. It will also keep more of a "traditional" nostalgic look to the car.

I installed a set of Safecraft (camlock) last year in my BDR. They are much simpler for the wife and kids to hook in. I have my old set if anyone is interested.... No going back

Are they easy to install?

Thanks!

Yes Chad...very easy. You just need a scissors to cut the excess length belt. I used a lighter to melt the webbing once the belt was cut to stop it from fraying. I just had to remember to leave a certain amount of adjustment so the harnesses would still fit someone bigger or smaller than me.

Adjusting it to the right length takes the longest, but it wasn't hard by any means. The harnesses I ordered came with the "bolt on" ends, but I had to take the "latch hook" ends off the old ones to get them through the slots in the wall behind the seat anyway. So I just switched them out and put them on the new belts. Very easy to do.

This is where I bought them from at $149 each, which for the quality was a steal.

Corbeau 3-Inch 5-Point Harness Belts Camlock Black

They put the order in to Corbeau that day and 3 days later I had the harnesses in hand. Outstanding service.
