BDR side pipe exhaust
 
I know some of you have had to deal with this issue. That is the side pipe exhaust mount breaking at the weld. My drivers side bracket has broken at the weld X2 and thats enough for me It's time to get serious.

This is an old style L shape bracket that is welded to the muffler drops down and mounted thru a rubber pad to the frame almost a solid mount. I would like to replace the rubber disc with something that has more give without being sloppy or to much give.

Looking for a kit or something that will bolt to the underside of the frame and allow the arm coming from the muffler to pass thru it...Any Ideas.

You could either unbolt your pipe brackets and use rubber muffler brackets so the sidepipes are hanging from them or tie your engine to your frame. I did both. Sidepipes don't need to be bracketed to the frame.

I think you have another problem to look at: motor mounts and tranny mounts. If you are braking the weld it sounds like you are getting excessive engine flex which it translating through the pipes. I'm guessing you tranny mount is shot or the steel x-member holding the mount is bending under load. I replaced my x-member with a thicker wall piece that reduced the bend/flex considerably.

You can also get a polyurethane tranny mount, was an easy swap out too.

I had the driver’s side break at the weld as well. It broke right at point the piece of flat stock welded to the 2 pieces weld to the side pipe (hope that makes sense). Where broke as the point that carries the most load, the bracket did not look like it had enough structural integrity to me. I simply doubled up the 1 inch flat stock by welding another on top of it. So far it has been fine. I did same to passenger side before it had a similar fate. Mine is a later chassis (992) and it has rubber mounting arrangement to the frame. Talking to Jay from Vintage and it sounds like a very common problem on the BDRs.
