Oil dripping (slowly) from steering rack

I havent got the car up on jack stands yet to see exactly where on the rack, but would be curious to see if anyone else has experienced a slow drip from the steering rack and what steps were needed to fix it. Manual steering, original setup, car #168. Is the rack also a BMW component?

Thanks

If it is a manual rack it only has grease in it.

Well, it looks like a BMW power steering rack to me, with no power steering hooked up. That's why I asked what it was. The leak is coming from around the stub shaft on the top side of the rack that accepts steering wheel inputs (all those fun shafts and u-joints from the steering wheel down the drivers' side of the engine and then down into the steering rack).

It ain't powered, it ain't grease, and it is the standard BDR non-power-steering steering rack for that vintage. #168.

Thanks anyway

Why are you using a power steering rack unassisted?

What is the rack using as a lubricant now?

What have you done with the fluid in & out ports?

If you can post up a Picture maybe someone has an Idea.
