Power Steering Backdraft
3 Attachment(s)
Hey,
I'm new in the forum and recently I buy a Backdraft Jack Roush edition Super charger #791, build in 2008. The car is incredible, but I have a couple question about the car: 1) It is normal that the Power Steering is very hard to try to move the wheel? If yes, do you know any upgrade available to improve this. 2) I'm trying to balance the wheel because the vibration at 60 mph is nasty, but the nut are extremely adjusted. Can you please give any recommendation to this. I appreciate your help with this. |
I'll assume your power steering is by Armstrong (meaning your arms are the only power turning the steering wheel). I don't like it either, but unless you get a $2,000 upgrade and take the wrath of Club Cobra members that will think you are less of REAL cobra owner, you are pretty much stuck with hard steering. It helps to get the Cobra rolling a little before you try and turn the wheel.
Not sure what the nut being adjusted means, but vibration at speed is likely means your tires need balancing. I found a tire out of round as the cause in my case. Most of the time the tire balance will fix the problem. |
One simple upgrade would be a larger diameter steering wheel. I found that replacing that small Tinker Toy Backdraft factory wheel improves steering effort.
Ever see the steering wheels on a bus? :D I don't quite understand your 2nd problem...what nut? |
Do you actually have power steering? Show a picture of the front of the engine.
You need a lead hammer to loosen or tighten the spinner. Where are you located? |
Thank's guys for the information and recommendation. I'm from Puerto Rico island and my English is terrible but when I say nut I refer to spinner. Sorry for missing understanding. I saw other post related to this and some people had the same situation about freeze. If you have any recommendation will be appreciated.
Related to power steering I don't know if normal that the steering wheel is hard to move the tires when stop. I saw some videos in YouTube presenting easy driving just one hands. I want to know is normal or if in the market is ready an upgrade bolt on to improve this. Thanks guys one more time. I'm so very happy with my backdraft inclusive in Puerto Rico just have 3 Backdraft and the price are very expensive and the taxes and registration is a pain. To take an idea, the original owner paid 84k dollar in 2009. |
I have never had wheels off in 700 miles but the knock-off spinners (nuts) need to be removed with lead hammer after safety wire is removed.
I hope my aviation buddies can re-tie safety wire when wheels are removed. I did buy wire-tie pliars and lead hammer. One day soon, I will get pickup bed liner sprayed in wheel wells. Would you guys use car color or black? Sorry for getting way off subject. Power steering would be nice |
Ponle power steering y listo, entiendo que Backdraft vende de todo tipo de pieza, en Plaza vi uno negro con linea chinita pero los aros se veian pintados con pote de spray...

Jejejejeje good point sorry. Do you know what is the price of the upgrade? My backdraft have 5.4L 3valve supercharger Roush engine and oem power sterring pump is installed to sterring system. I don,t know if power sterring oil flush can help me to remove any sediment. Any advice is welcome. |
Does did stick level show full of nice clear red fluid?
If not leaking,,a flush might be in order. My 5.4 Ford E-150 is a 2001 with original ps pump, hoses and fluid. No leaks and working well. |
