Removing play in clutch pedal?

I believe I'm noticing extra free play at the top of my clutch Pedal stroke, almost 2 inches of free play before there's any resistance, would bleeding the clutch generally alleviate free play?

BDR T5 transmission Not sure which clutch Manufacturer.

And Which fluid would be recommended? Interesting Location for the Clutch reservoir

Thank you

What type release bearing do you have? Is the slave cyl. on the outside of the bell housing or does the line go inside?

I don't know the manufacturer of the clutch or bearing and they seem to be working fine its just that I'm getting a bit of play at the top of the pedal and wondering if bleeding it might help and I'm not sure how to bleed a clutch I've only done brakes.
it's mounted outside of the bell housing and it's the one that's on backdrafts site I don't know the manufacturer.

If everything is working properly, there should be an adjustment behind the pedal in the foot footwell that will let you adjust the pedal travel.

video

I made a short Video of the paddle shift entering the master.

Showing the travel before it gets to the point where it's pushing fluid to the slave cylinder, seems like the master might be wearing out by the play in the shaft not sure?

I tried to remove the cap on the master to check the fluid it's in such a tight spot it doesn't seem like a Wants to come off, Does anyone know if I need to push it down before I turn it?

thanks

A replacement master is reasonable enough.

It looks like it will be a real bear to replace It, any tips? Maybe take out the side vent?

D111, it looks like some of your play is from the turn buckle clevis pin, where it's connected to the clutch arm.

Ditto....some serious mechanical play in both turnbuckle ends.

You can buy the clevis pin from West Marine if that's what is worn. If it's the pedal shaft you may need some type of insert. I replaced the clevis pin on my BDR and got rid of a poping noise while engaging the clutch.

Whats your car no? When was the last time clutch fluid was changed? Do u have a heat shield under the clutch master? I would suggest u tighten the linkage up, replace fluid if it has not been changed lately, and order a heat shield from BDR if it does not have one.

Open the Bleeder on the slave (drain oil). Add fluid and flush till fluid is CLEAR.
Bleed until clutch is firm. My have to bleed a few times.

Fluid Motul RBF 600 (most motorcycle shops will carry it.)

Car number Is 690 something. I have a heat shield hopefully I can just bleed the system I will try it this week.

Took the car out today for a ride seems like it's getting worse Have to push the pedal to the floor to go to next Gear.

Clutch disengages 2 inches from the floor now.

Thank you for your responses.

Do you know if you have to push The lid down before turning I am afraid to force it it does not want to open?

+1 on what PLDRIVE said.

You should be able to turn it without pushing it down. Counter clockwise, not trying to be a wise guy but sometimes when you are standing on your head its easy to forget which way to turn.:3DSMILE:

I know exactly what you mean its like upside down and backwards when your arm is twisted in there but I was going counter clockwise and turning hard but it would not release so I thought it might be a push down and turn deal.

GLS-BDR226 05-04-2013 09:17 PM

It's just a regular wilwood master with a plastic screw on lid. I never had to push it down but as long as you didn't push down hard enough to break things you could try it. This is a picture of it on the BDR website. Backdraft Parts - 3/4 Clutch Master Cylinder - Clutch Engagement - Transmission - Products

I ruined a T5 due the clutch not engaging properly. Good luck.

Rwillia4 05-04-2013 10:40 PM

For filling it up I use a oil squirt bottle, one of the small metal ones with a 3" spout. Someone recommended it here a few years back and it is perfect for doing the brakes and clutch. You only get a few pumps before it needs to be topped off.

happy ending

work out great just need to be flushed and bled I was able to pour the fluid right in with the small 12 ounce container no problem clutch now releases and disengage quarter of the way down

thank you much for all the help
