Need more Garage room
 

Anybody put in a 4 post lift to store their Cobra? I am running out of space in the garage and need a work area . If I take my Mustang and put it on top of the Cobra I will have one garage space for the workshop.
Looking for ideas and what brands are best.

Lots of folks are sure to comment but quite a few have lifts in their garages..I bought mine about 5 years ago. Send me message and I can talk to you about them and why I with the I chose. As I tell everyone just remember a few things...

Cant imagine not having mine, makes everything easier. I do not have a huge garage just a typical one. If you have garage door openers you can opt for the tracks which mount on the ceiling and the opener drive motor that mounts off to the side which will give you more height. I do not store anything underneath of my car so I didnt need to do this, however, if I wanted to do so I would need to relocate the tracks/motor as my ceilings are 9'

I would also recommend the optional jack which slides front to back along with drip trays to protect whatever you put below:3DSMILE:

I too needed more space and invested in a 4 post to provide parking for both toys. I love it. The only pain is when I want to take the car on top out for a spin, it takes a few minutes!

I'm very happy with my Bendpak 4-post lift with hydraulic scissor lift...

I have the same issue and already have 4.5 stalls. So I am building on to the house with the intent of tall and deep that could handle up to 4 additional vehicles. Need to do this before I can buy my cobra as I am not selling any of the other toys. I will be watching this with interest.

4 post lift is the answer, cobra on top and GT 500 SS on bottom or vise versa. 12 ft celing, 2 post in a different bay!

I bought my first 4 post lift and installed it about three weeks ago. I was more interested in ease of maintenance than storage space. I was looking for the least expensive lift that looked safe to me. After considerable research I bought an extra long, extra tall model from Greg Smith Equipment in Atlanta. ... The bad news was that the installation instructions were terrible. The good news was that the technician at Greg Smith gave me his number and was very helpful in answering my questions. It didn't hurt that I had some heavy lifting equipment to make the job easier.

I was in the same situation as you a few years ago. I too went with a Greg Smith Equipment 4 post in my 3 car garage with 10 1/2' ceilings. I converted one door to the low headroom tracks and Liftmaster 3800 jack shaft opener. I've since moved and built a dedicated garage with 12' ceilings - brought the lift with me with minimal teardown. It helped that I could pick up the lift from the DE location with only an hour or two travel round trip and no tax.

I'm happy with the lift and agree with the need for the sliding jack. I'm happy with the quality as a hobby lift with no concerns of safety for me or my toys. I went with the extra tall one so I could walk under it without ducking when lifted empty. I wish I went wider as my truck won't fit now... Sometimes I wish I had a two post for some maintenance/repair jobs, but knew I couldn't store a vehicle on a two post. I planned ahead with 6" concrete in my new garage should I ever get a two post.

I also bought a lift from greg smith. (Indianapolis In.) Mine is a direct lift. One of my best investments for my car hobby.

If we build a new house, I want a garage that holds a door LWB truck and lots of headroom fpr a lift or two.

4 or 5 stalls and maybe one bedroom to avoid squatters and boomerangs.

I'm watching this too. About to start a new shop building and I'm really thinking about a scissor lift (dual lifts), recessed flat into the concrete. No storage lift is needed. Sure looks like the clear floor, no posts type lift is a nice setup.

Not sure of the disadvantages, if any?

By the way, no intent to steal the thread at all.

Crane Accessory for Backyard Buddy Lifts But they want about $4,500 for the lift, and $2,700 for the crane! Yikes! And I think other lifts might be better built for half the money.

My current front runner is a Danmar Commander: Dannmar Commander 7000 (formerly D-7) Four Post Car Lift 7,000 lb.

I'm also keeping a close eye on Craig's List.

.. After a LOT of searching... and asking on different sites.. and just plain tired of laying on my back.. and all the agony that goes with crawling under any car... stuff dripping in my eyes.. ears.. dropping a bolt that is laying next to my ear....I purchased a :

Four Post Lifts

This company has a location here in NY and I am big on putting the $ into home.. etc.
Many of these lifts at the end of the day are all within $100-$200 of each other all all come with drip trays, wheels and a jack platform. I opted for the hydraulic center jack also.

Here is the WAY weirder part; I called the local sales/service person for all the garages in town and told him what I wanted . .and he said it would not work in my garage. *(YES i can measure and before I shelled out any $ I surely measured) .. And then the rep said he would check prices and call me back; he did not. :confused:

I also reached out to several other vendors with no returned calls. WHAT THE...(#$%)! that angered me as we all know how important it is to keep business in America.:mad:

As you can see from the pix it fits, it works and I have plenty of standing room with a t 10' cieling to work under it.. and put other car under it.

AND.. yes one more 'AND'..; I had these guys put it together for me. (not that I can't.. I just chose not to). A little over an hour later.. this thing was together and wheeled with the supplied wheels from my driveway into the garage!! SLICK!!:D
