Fuel filter

Has anyone tried replacing the small in-line fuel filter located before the electric carter fuel pump with a Fram HPG http://www.summitracing.com/parts/frm-hpg1 ?

I thought about drilling and tapping and bolting the mount to the frame. My biggest concern is whether this would burn out the fuel pump because it is 10 microns.

Thanks.

I have an SPF but have a filter between the gas tank and pump. Its bigger than a 10 micon filter. Another filter is between the pump and carb. That one is 10 to catch anything else.

100 micron between the tank and pump works good. I've seen a mag test where they used a 40 micron and there was too much restriction. course, there are always exceptions....

If you install a filter on the inlet side to the pump make sure it is 100 microns. A typical fuel filter is either 10 or 35 microns (intended for placement after the pump on the pressure side) and they are way too restrictive for the inlet side. The restriction can cause a vacuum to form just after the filter, especially on a hot day. You may then find yourself under the car removing the fuel line to purge the air pocket. Been there.

When I was laying out my fuel system, I spoke with a support engineer at Aeromotive. With either an electric pump or a mechanical pump (RobbMC in my case RobbMc Performance Products - Ford FE 1100HP Fuel Pump) they recommend a 100 micron filter out of the tank, and a 40 either before or after the regulator (there are trade-offs either way). I went with these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ae...Fcue4Aodu1AAvg because they are high quality, cleanable, and look good, and you can change the element from 10 to 40 to 100 in any filter housing.
