BDR Brake Bias
Folks:
I've noticed for some time now that my rear wheel brakes make more brake dust than my front wheel brakes, which leads me to wonder if the front/rear brake bias is appropriate for my car (99.999% street driven). So, I was thinking of installing a brake proportioning valve to give me some adjustability. My eyes are nearly healed up from a series of surgeries--its a long story--so that I can now be a bit more aggressive with braking and would like to make sure the bias is properly set. I understand the standard master cyl for the BDR is an ATE unit built for a Nissan installation, which is supposed to have proportioning more suitable to a BDR than say a stock BMW 325 unit. If so great. My understanding from Reg is that it can't be adjusted. Is it worthwhile to install a proportioning valve? Thanks, |
yes it seems odd that there is not a adjustment valve on the car at all.brakes are fantastic but it would be nice to be able to adjust.for some reason I get very little dust at all front or rear maybe it's because I wash the car like crazy :-)

No dust on the rear is not unusual, even in a racing car. It also depends on the pads.
I have tracked my car several times. No need for a bias valve, especially for the street IMHO. BTW, a stock oem pad will dirty the front wheels quickly, completely and throughly after a weekend at the track. Save your money for something else. :) |

cbreez: What I actually said was that the rears were making more brake dust than the front. Same-make pads and rotors front and rear, nothing odd-ball. Seems to me the fronts should be making more than the rears under all conditions, not just at the track, like my daily driver. Just seems anomalous.... If other BDR owners aren't putting them in then I guess I will spend it elsewhere. |
U might want to check your brake pressure. Do u have a crimp in the supply to the front brakes?
