BDR fuel leak
 
Just purchased used BDR w/1100 miles coyote 5.0. noticed a small gas leak since I filled up tank. Appears to coming from top of tank. Any help or Thoughts would be appreciated.

Is the tank plastic or aluminum?

You can't fill these cars "brim full". When the gas pump shuts off don't try to squeeze a bit more in...heat will expand it and it will come out the vent or even the cap.

You didn't say how much you filled it.

Check your fill tube connections.

Tank is aluminum. I did fill to brim! My mistake. I plan on getting under car tommorrow and try to see what is going on. I did check fill tube and vent and all is OK.

The drips of gas are coming down the tank in the front. Appears to be coming from top of tank. I think. Without raining I can't see where it is coming from. Not having the details of the build, I don't know what the connections are on the top of tank.

Only have had the car 5 days and havent noticed before today when I filled the tank with gas. I did however have a smell of gas in the garage previously before the fillup, but didn't notice any liquid on floor

You have the newer setup, likely with the in tank fuel pump for the Coyote. Could be a fitting is loose or more likely it's the seal for the sender since it occurred when you are topping it off. If you drop the tank it will be obvious. Or simply run it at a lower fill level until you have the time/energy.

I have build #703 that I purchased about a year ago. Same problem. If filled to the top, it leaks - otherwise no problem. I haven't had chance to see where it is coming from.

Had the same problem, the gasket on the sending unit was bad. replaced it, problem went away. I bought a gasket that is a rubber compound, not straight rubber or cork.

Could you provide the info on the rubber gasket. Where purchased etc. I do need to replace the gasket. Drained the tak to 1/2 level and leak stopped. Actually got under car and could see the problem.

If you can't find an exact gasket you can get fuel-approved gasket material from McMaster-Carr and cut your own.

Won't let me post link to Summit for some reason. But search there for VDO "2 2 6 0 5 3" just take out spaces. The forum software won't let me post the part number either.

Fuel Sender Leaking
 
I had the same problem with my sender leaking. One of the machine screws was stripped and not holding. I purchased a stainless ring which I placed on the inside of the tank with delco engine sealant and reinstalled the sender. No leaks now. Removal of the tank is simple and takes a very short time to do.

I had the same issue twice. I have a plastic tank in my #982. I took it out once before to find the fuel sender leaking. The large suction plate wasnt very far behind. That was fixed to but found out the factory stripped 2 of the 8 (or 6 maybe) brass inserts molded in the tank so it would never seal regardless. Im in search of a new tank as it a royal PITA to remove and reinstall. Next time the plastic tank comes out its going into the trash. Found some nice ss and alum tanks with larger capacity just custom made. SO now I only put 10-12 gallons in at a time.

You should get the new aluminum tank and put the in tank fuel pump setup in. Would work so much better with your stack injection. When your car was built it just was not an available option. Shoot me an email if you need the info.
