Help w solid diff mounts and solid sub frame mounts

I own #990 and I am installing some solid differential mounts here is the link from backdraft. Has anyone installed these and can give me some pointers and if they have to be pressed in? .Backdraft Parts - Solid Diff Mountings - Performance Suspension - Suspension - Products

427, I installed all of those in my last BDR (687) and I can say that it was not what I'd call easy. For the most part, yes, the new bushings do have to be pressed in. I used a combination of washers, threaded rod and grease to get that done and wound up using grade 8 stuff because I was putting so much force on them I destroyed grade 5 stuff. If you have access to a hydraulic press the job would be much easier. The only real trick that I can give you is on removing the rubber bushings. I tried prying, pressing, cutting and burning before I happened on the easiest route. And I found that rather than burning the bushings directly, if you use a propane torch or similar around the steel outside of the bushing until the rubber just inside starts to bubble, then the whole thing can be whacked right out.

The change in how the car feels is quite noticeable though and I consider the mod quite worth it. Hope that helps man.

The easiest method would be to freeze them. You can try a regular freezer, but a -60 freezer would work best, or get some liquid nitrogen. They will slip right in place.

If you have a welding supply house near you, contact them for liquid nitrogen.

I can say that a regular fridge/freezer won't do jack. At least it didn't for me. The liquid N thing though.......... Hmmmm.

You probably need a deep freezer. We used that all the time to install bearing etc. It goes to 60 below.

We threw a guys turkey in there one year as he missed the day of work before Thanksgiving when they handed them out. It sat in there for 3 days. We had a plastic mallet and we were hitting the turkey and the leg literally broke off it was frozen so hard. It took about a week to defrost.

Do I have to remove the independent rear suspension or the gas tank to gain access? Thanks guys I thought that these bushing are going to be a pain in the ass but I have to do it.

Yes, that whole sub-frame has to come out. I can't remember for sure if the tank HAS to come out or not but it would sure make things easier.

After I pull out the subframe and reinstall it Will I have to realign the rear end ?

You can mark the camber arm locations and go with that if you want. But you really should have the car aligned as you will have removed the bars that set the toe....

While you are in there suggest pulling roll bar and filling it with some foam to reduce noise transfer. The solid mounts will carry the vibration through the bar and create a buzzing sound behind your head.

Thanks for the info
