Wet sanding
Took delivery of 1282 two weeks ago and while I love the color of my car,the clear coat seems rough on the hood and trunk areas. I understand that the new
builds have 3 layers of clear and I am thinking of having my blue/silver striped
car wet sanded. Has anyone else done this recently and can you share your
thoughts on the difference it made?

Hi. I have had collector cars wet sanded and buffed as part of a restoration, and I've done it myself too. Websites like autogeek have instructions and supplies. Personally, I prefer to start with fine grit like 2000 and spend more time at it rather than start with something coarser and faster. Then 3200, then I use a Flex orbital and microfiber pads with compounds and polish. On my clear coated cars I've been happy with the Pinnacle system. The results are satisfying in doing it yourself. The detail guy told me to shy away from the wet sanding as the paint/clear was extremely thin in spots. I ended up doing the meguiars da microfiber paint correction on my own with very good results.

1340 must have had the same hood prep. I have gotten a bunch of it out using several applications of Meguiars polish. very low chance you will break through the clear. It does take several applications. apply in a back and forth motion....do not rub in circles. Slowly you will see improvement.

When you say "rough" are you speaking of orange peel or surface roughness. If it's orange peel it may have some overspray or other contaminants on it that will clean up with detailer clay. It shouldn't be a problem carefully wet sanding with some 2500 on a pad and re-polishing/buffing but no one except the painter knows how much clear is really on the car so there is always a risk of breaking through through which would mean re-painting.

I would try a clay bar first. You'd be surprised how much gunk it will take off...

It's more of scratches on some surface areas and what seems to be small globs of
clear over the silver stripes.

Then lightly sanding the globs (2000 or 2500) on a wooden stick and buffing the hood should fix it.
