Body adjustment over rear axle ?
I noticed there is about 1/2 inch less of fender hangover on the driver's side over the rear wheels. Can the body be moved over the rear axle to have each side hangover the wheel equal ?

there is an adjustment nut (for a spanner) on the top spring seat, but level the car by the frame, not the body.

Well, that being the case, if you had a solid axel you would adjust the panhard bar to line things up. But with your Backdraft you have an IRS which is a different story. The Backdraft guys should chime in and hopefully be able to help you out.

It sounds like you talking about suspension and alignment. I think this has to do with how the body mounts to the frame.

The adjustment I was referring to is the ride height, which also raises/lowers the body and chassis with reference to the ground. The important thing is to have your ride height correct, and without doing a corner balance, the only thing to do is check ride height, adjust if necessary, and no, there is no adjustment to the body with reference to the frame,

I have seen some make adjustments with the wheels, spacer, machine off material on backside of wheel if enough material is present. Keep in mind stud length if you have pin drive wheels.

My Rt3 was the same as yours with 1/2" lower clearance over the driver side rear tire. My tires are the taller 295s. So I just finished adjusting it. Needed to upgrade the shocks which are taller and will allow you to crank down the spanner nut on top of the spring. There are several steps but is an easy fix. Frame is still level in back and wheel clearance over the tire is equal now. Custom Cars should have done that but didn't. If the tall tires hits the body it runs risk of cracking paint. Ideally you want at least 2 finger clearance over the tire and body. |

If you fool around with Ride Height, it should be measured with the driver IN the seat or...use masonry blocks which weigh 40 lbs. each and use the appropriate number of blocks placed on the floorboard and drivers seat to measure! In addition, the sway bars should be disconnected when setting height to eliminate any preload.
A 200 plus lb. driver equals about 10% of the total B/D weight so it's important. |
I think it would easier to use bags of sand from Lowes. They weight 40 lbs each and are plastic bags. You can sit them in the seat with a beach towel to cover the seat.
