Battery Isolator Switch
Switch seems to be going out. Sometimes it works then it does not make contact. Has anyone replaced this switch? Seems to be buried on the firewall and does not look easy to replace. Any good ideas would be appreciated.

You sure it's the switch and not the wires loose on the lugs on the back? Inside the black box on engine side (4 screws holding cover on).

I have not taken the cover off yet. Will check it out. Thanks Jay

If it turns out to be the switch itself you will need to get the carpet pulled back to access the screws that hold the switch into the tunnel. I've only ever done 1 in all the years though.

I use the (supposedly) best switches I can find. I'm on my third one now. Apparently, they're not meant to be used every time you park the car. When you do that, they wear out.

It might be a good time to relocate the switch closer to the battery in the trunk if one has to remove the carpet to get to the attaching bolts or just remove the switch.

What a project to get the switch out. Removed it after a lot of angry words and found the new switch I got from Boyton Beach is not the same as the original one. If I use it as I received it the box would be cocked to one side. What a bummer. I have taken a piece of stainless and welded two studs to the back side to hold the switch in the box. I am going to use pop rivits to attach it to the firewall. This will allow me to replace the switch without removing the carpet. Hope it works.

Decided not to use the switch from Backdraft. Ordered one from Summit Racing and looks to bolt up as the original one on the car. With some fine words I hope to get it in place. I like the fact that I can turn off the power from the drivers seat. Just hope this new one fits and last somewhat longer than the original. Will know more next week when the switch arrives.

Have owned this switch for 20 years.
I have always switched it off each time I left the vehicle. Fortunately I haven't needed to replace it. It has built-in provision for making connection with the ignition system. If the engine is running and the battery switch is moved to its disconnect position, the engine will shut down.

What Apmerage are these switches rated for?

Battery cut off
I don't know what the original one is but the one I ordered is 150 continuous and 500 surge. Hope that is enough.

Got the switch from Summit and replaced it. All functions seem to be working correctly. Was able to get it in place without damage to the carpet.

If it turns out to be the switch and since it's a lot of work to replace it I'd go with re-location it while you're at it. Mine is in the trunk, easy to get to, easy to replace when necessary. I too went with a switch from Summit

I thought about putting it in the trunk. Should I have to replace it again I will. Having it on the console just makes it quick and easy to turn on and off. But what a pain in the butt to replace. And to make things worse the one Backdraft has to replace it with does not fit correctly. I put it in the spare parts bin of useless parts. LOL
