headlight problems

I own a backdraft cobra and I'm currently having problems with my headlights, the high beams seams to be stuck, can't seem to get the low beam on. checked all the fuses and they are ok. any help?

I am not that familiar with the Backdraft setup but does your low beams have a separate ground from the high beams? Also have you tried checking the voltage at the back of the lights where it would go in for the low beams or is yours to hard to to get to? When I built my Cobra that I had, I ran separate wires and grounds as I raced it and wanted to be sure that I had a back up in case one failed. Also I had a small terminal mounted close to all of my lights where the wiring went to and that made it easy to check for voltage. And also check your light switch as I had one go bad once for the low beams and I suddenly had no light at all when switching to low beam. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Sometimes just a tap on the relay fixes it. Others have had issues with the high beam switch itself. Do you hear the relay clicking when pressing the high beam button?

When I check my headlights in the garage and switch them to high beams, the high beams get stuck more often than not. If I repeatedly click the button, the headlights return to low beams after several tries. Anyway, that is my 'normal' abnormal operation of headlights. I suspect that the relay is erratic but, for me, it is not broken.

Sounds like points inside relay have a burnt place on them. Why that happens I don't know, other than maybe to many volts, ( amps ), to it. Pry the cap part off of relay, sand or file the points, (contact area). Then see what happens. This has fixed the non blinking, (stuck on) turn signal issue for me many times years back. I've not dealt with it happening to headlights though.

Change the relay, it's a common problem; and carry a spare the don't cost much.
