clutch slave cylinder leaking

so title says it all, the slave cylinder is leaking through the rubber boot when actuated. and this after only 1000 miles LOL!

Any recommendations for replacing this part with an upgraded unit? something that will last longer with better quality.

thanks!

If the pushrod is not aligned well it could be wearing on the bore.

Mine did the same with similar miles! It was reccomended to me to go with Wilwood. I did and I haven't had any issues since.

My clutch master cylinder went out after 500 miles. Most on here thought it was my slave, so I replaced it with a Wilwood one but did not fix my issue. Turned out to be the master cylinder (white cap one from Backdraft that was stock). Replaced that with a Wilwood one (black cap) and solved the issue. Not a problem with either since.

Thanks for the feedback guys. So my master cylinder is wilwood but not sure what the slave is. Can you guys give me the wilwood slave cylinder model number? Did you buy it from a vendor like summit racing?

Thanks again

I went back and checked. I actually used this one in my car when I had the above posts problem. Have not had any issues with it. I searched Summit using a 88 Mazda B2200 slave cylinder. You'll just use the rod on your current car instead of the supplied one. From Summit.

My car came with the wilwood pull style slave. Over the first several thousand miles I went through three of them. The first slave failed because of the seal. The next two I had problems with the shaft comimg unscrewed at the piston in the cylinder. I then swithed to a cnc co pull slave and it's now been about five years since I had an issue. I just make sure to bleed the fluid every year and I did add a heat shield Early on.

Mine started to leak early on as well. It too was a Wilwood unit. I purchased a new slave with a different much stonger mount from a Backdraft dealer and it's never leaked since. Problem is I can't remember which dealer. I think it was two brothers?? Both had been in Navy Aviation in the past?? Maybe someone on here remembers who it is...Just did a search. It was Bill Littelton, but he is out of business. I don't know if he still comes on here, or if he has any slaves/mounts left from when he was a dealer.

I checked the price from Summit for the Mazda slave cylinder and its about 1/2 the price of the one from Backdraft. Both look the same and bolt up the same. Most have about 1 1/8 inch travel so should work. Maybe a extra would be in order as they seem to leak a lot. Using the push rod from Rosehill Performance which is adjustable is the best thing. This push rod gives precise adjustment.

Yeah that was Bill L. We have a similar setup now with a heavier mounting tab (thicker material) and it uses the push style slave that Jim mentions. We have them for TKO with SBF and TKO with Coyote.

I'm using Cashburns mount and I must say, it don't flex at all unlike the stock unit for us push rod guys.

Jay, Did not know you made some heavy slave brackets. I used 1/4" 4130 steel and it will not bend. Glad to know my idea was used.
