First hiccup!
We had our first hiccup in the car tonight. Took the daughter to the cruise in, left to get doughnuts, and it happened. Pull up at the light, get a few thumbs up, light turns green, and the gas pedal goes straight to the floor! Luckily we were on a hill and could coast down to a parking lot, but not a good feeling! The positive is it was overcast and not raining...now to get it towed in and fixed Monday...

Any more details? I had a similar moment when I got the Twin Paxton motor installed. I had a friend with me, told him to hang on, and...:CRY: A fastener on the throttle linkage gave and we were barely able to limp back to the shop. At the time I thought it was a big deal but it was just about as simple as it gets. :JEKYLHYDE |
Hero to the goat real quick at the red light! Looks like the cable is stripped where the cable meets the pedal. there was no way to rig it and try and limp her in...not sure I would try it anyway as the worst case scenario would cost more than the tow.

Early on I yanked the throttle cable right out of the carb - didn't have a stop under the pedal. Tied a piece of string to the carb, draped it over the windshield and drove home with a hand throttle! :)

A handy thing t keep in the toolbox is 1 mm fencing wire. Pull out the old inner cable, and feed the wire through. Wrap it around the carby pin and the foot paddle joint.

Anyone know the length of the cable? Got a call into Backdraft in Florida, but didn't know if any of you guys have replaced one and if so, remembered what length cable was needed.
Eric, I bet that was a "fun" ride home...and can only imagine the looks you were getting from people as these cars already attract enough attention not to mention you trying to limp her home. Thanks |

Just a follow-up on a few things:
1. Was told a universal cable would work, so I bought a Lokar cable and realized there would be some modifications needed to make it work. 2. Ordered the cable from Backdraft and awaiting on it to arrive, but was wondering how many others have had throttle/accelerator cable issues? Looks like the design coming from the firewall to the pedal causes the cable to sit at a slight downward angle. If that's the case, it seems that the cable would rub against the metal bracket attached to the firewall and eventually cause the same problem with the cable fraying or breaking completely. Has anyone re-drilled the post on the pedal to make it straight across from the bracket so the cable doesn't rub on the bracket? I see an issue if the post is moved directly inline with the bracket as the pedal will rub on the top side instead of the bottom with the pedal moving back on an arc, but with all the experience on this site, I'm sure someone has found a solution. As I was bringing my #206 back up to race track condition I noticed the original looked kind of flimsy so we replaced it with a complete Edelbrock system for about $100 and it is perfect.

I was wrong about Edelbrock, sorry. It is AllStar /performance Parts #54215. Just enter it into /google and pick your supplier.
