Header to Sidepipe bolts size?
"Well that's a strange rattle"
I've broken several heat shield straps so I thought that is what the rattle was. Turns out, 3-out-of-4 bolts are gone between the header and side pipes. The last one was hanging on by a thread. Anyone know the size of these bolts/nuts? Motor is a Roush 427SR is that helps. If not, I will back one out of the good side and go visit my local Home Depot. Thanks! |
Got the bolt size, easy breezy. Having issues finding heat treated versions.
Jay-- have any you can sell me? Or a recommended source? Thanks! |
Anywhere but Home Depot. A decent auto parts or hardware store will have them.

Thanks Bill. I want to Napa and Autozone, struck out at both. Everyone seems to have the 8.8 versions but I have not located the heat treated as of yet.

Heat treated? I am not familiar with that. I am familiar with bolt grades. You may want to check McMaster Carr they have a great website. If you can't find it there it likely does not exist.
|
You may want to consider ARP bolts and deformed-thread (I think they are called) locking nuts that are made for high heat and vibration uses. Otherwise the nuts will keep coming off and the bolts will keep falling out.
At least, that's my experience over the last 38k miles. Cheers |

Thanks Sledge and Cashburn. I just ordered some of the ARP M8 bolts and nuts so hopefully I can make her safe again to drive.
I now see why some folks have lifts. I will be paranoid about every bolt on my Backdraft until I can double check them. :) |
